you could always get real bacon -

but

you have to find a real butcher.

There's at least 1 in every town, have you looked?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I have looked all over where we live and the real butcher would not make the cut just for us.

I would LOVE to be able to buy back bacon here. I don't think we have FRESH & EASY near us though.

Occasionally we order Irish back bacon online but it's not the same as the stuff from home.

I will have to see if we have one, but I have never heard of it. We have a butcher, but they only make it once in a blue moon because it's supposedly very expensive compared to american bacon, boo

I've never seen any in my local Fresh & Easy -- I'll have to look again. My experience with the local butcher is the same as Nick + Elizabeth's -- too costly to do. I have paid hand over fist in the past for a packet at one of the eye-wateringly expensive British shops in Santa Monica.

hmmm..

too costly != would not make the cut for us.

regardless ... want some? get some ! you pay for it here, as most butchers don't know what it is, but can be trained (by you) how to cut.

you might want to think about a pig co-op as well, where you and yer buddies have bought a pig from the pig farm outside o town.

And the one in Phoenix I went into didn't sell real bacon :crying:

I went into a real butcher a while back and asked for some back bacon - he knew what I was on about but didn't cut any because there wasn't the market for it! Really??? I'm sure there are loads of Americans who would prefer the real stuff over streaky - they just haven't been introduced to it yet!

For those of you who can't find proper bacon in a shop, I would recommend ordering from the English Pork Pie Company. Their bacon and sausages are as good as the stuff you get in the UK. You can also get all manner of pies, Scotch eggs and sausage rolls. Everything is quite good! I'm lucky because they have their factory in my hometown, so we just pop in on a Saturday morning. They do deliver all over the US and as they keep growing like crazy, they have been able to negotiate better shipping rates.
