Gah! I thought I had until the 11 of this month and I happen to look at my green card today and noticed it said the 2nd! That's tomorrow ! I went to the post today but I realized I left my cover letter at home. Geez! By the time I went back the post would be closed. So I can send it in tomorrow. The same day my card expires. How much trouble am I in here ? I'm filing jointly , and my package was put together in haste so i have tonight to go through it again. Should I include a paragraph in my cover letter explaining why I'm late ? I know a simple "I forgot and wrote the wrong date on my calendar" won't cut it. I don't know what else to say.

I'm sending USPS Express cert mail with return receipt tomorrow morning.

Will it get there by tomorrow ?

Are their offices even open tomorrow for someone to sign for it ?

Is it better to send FedEx ?

I'm in New York, sending to Vermont.

Does the post offer money order ? I need to do as least running around as possible.

What do I put on the envelope when I'm shipping. Do I write a "attention" or something specific? Sry in advance for all the questions. Any advice is helpful ! Also I don't have time to get affidavits from friends. I'm such a slacker ! Will this hurt me? I can get from my sister , but does it need to be notarized. Does the post notar

In My packet:

Copy of green card front and back

2 pass port style photo of myself

Joint tax records 2011&2010

Joint bank account statement

Joint phone bill statement

Photos (about 30)

---- should I write a letter explaining our relationship?

Back in 2011 my hard drive was damaged and I lost thousands of photos, from our wedding (at city hall nothing big, only a cousin was there as witness). Should I explain this for lack of wedding photos ?

We plan to have a big ceremony when we both have the money. We are still in college (both 24) and live with his grandmother. We don't have much assets or money we don't even share a lease. We plan to finish school and get stable jobs so we can start our lives together. Should I explain all this in a letter ? I have photos of us from since 2008 .

So one day late . What should I do ?

You will absolutely have to write in your cover letter why you're late and they don't HAVE to accept your submission. Make sure it's right before you send it because if they reject it (for whatever reason) when you resend it'll be even later and then you risk denial. You're not "one day late", by the time they've received it it'll be about a week late. By the time they process it, it could be 2 weeks late.

If your card expires on the 11th, why did you wait this long anyway? I understand if you thought you had another month or so but it's only a week or so difference. Your filing window is 90 days from the expiry date. You'll need to explain this.

Do you have ANY more proof of relationship? Don't forget it's not just one joint phone bill statement, it's spanning your 2 years together so one for every 3rd or 6th month or something. Same with bank account statements.

Passport photos are NOT required for I-751.

Yes post offices do money order. Not sure if they all notarise, you'll need to check.
