I'm a little concerned about the money stuff.

We do have a co-sponsor (his cousin), but I haven't yet seen her paperwork & don't know if it's sufficient.

Over the past few years, I've made WELL below poverty (around $5k annually) while in school. Now I'm making closer to poverty, but not 125% over. I've printed check stubs (three of them) and have a letter from my job. I'm also self-employed, which would put me over, but I can't prove that yet, since it isn't on my taxes from last year.

So, if I give them my application, along with the 3 check stubs & bank letter & work letter, PLUS the co-sponsor's info, is that going to be enough?

I think it will depend on the co-sponsors info. You have no idea of her income and fam size?

She lives alone. She works full-time & has a regular job. I can't imagine her NOT being sufficient. I spoke with her on the phone & she indicated she knew the requirements & met them. I didn't push for details, because I knew I'd be getting the information soon & since I don't really know her, I thought demanding specifics was a bit tacky. But if you work full time at $8 an hour, you're going to clear $16K, so that should be ok, right? It seems to me that she makes more than that (from the little hints).

It's $18,912 for a household of 2.

But she lives alone.

I don't want to speculate. I'll get the actual information soon enough.

You are applying for a K1, so you'll will have to provide this information twice, once at the interview, then durning the AOS process. I am only pointing this out since you wrote you don't know this person well. Will she be up for signing on for a 10 year obligation to the US government.

These are the poverty guidelines: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-864p.pdf

Household size of 2 is the smallest it goes. If someone is single, they still have to include the person they are sponsoring. I also agree with the poster above. You will need to file an I-864 affidavit of support after you are married and your husband files for adjustment of status. The I-864 is a binding contract and no one should sign it without reading and understanding exactly what they will be agreeing to when they sign it.

The co sponsor is not combined with your income. You cannot prove you have enoguh...so you don't.

If the co-sponsor exceeds the guidelines, you awill be fine.

No problem. She's supported him through primary school & college (university) & is basically like his mom, since his parents died when he was young. She's up to it. And she's familiar with the process as well, being an immigrant herself.

Yes you do because you will always be the primary sponsor when you're the original petititioner. You will need to fill out the i-134 and later down the road, you will need to do the same for AOS regardless of having a joint sponsor or not.

To put it it other words, you're the primary sponsor and you're the first in line to pay up if your fiancee becomes a public charge because she is first and foremost your responsibility, secondly the joint sponsor who signed the affidavit.

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

Click timeline or "about me" for all details.

AOS process, December 2011 > July 2012

EAD/AP Approval took 51 days from NOA1 date to email update. (77 days from filing until EAD/AP in hand)

AOS Approval took 206 days from NOA1 date to email update. (231 days from filing until greencard in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until greencard in hand: 655 days

Okay, so I'm right to have the bank info, work letter, pay stubs, and form filled out? And the taxes shouldn't matter so much, because by the time I have to prove it later, I will have filled out taxes for this year anyhow (which will likely show me making enough to sponsor on my own). Correct?

Thanks!

If you did not file taxes for 2011, then you need to include a statement as to why you were not legally required to file.

No one said anything about not filing. But what I read doesn't ask for taxes, it asks for pay stubs. And last year I made just over $5k. Again. The question is, if there is a co-sponsor, it's her information they're looking at?
