Hello everyone, I'm filling out an I-130 to bring my Wife to the US. I have seen the example I-130 and read several posts on this question but I am still confused as to who to list on #17. Do I list Myself, the petitioner as in the example form, or my Wife, the beneficiary? Or both of us as some people have stated?

Also, for question# 21 is it fine to write "We just got married, we have never lived together"?

For question# 22, do i just put N/A since my wife is not in the US?

Thank you for any help.

#17. You are listing the alien relative your wife (her info there)

# 21 You would put N/A, some have listed the hotel or home they styed while visiting.

# 22, Yes that is NA

Never leave anything blank if it doesn't apply None or NA will do.

Also, for question# 21 is it fine to write "We just got married, we have never lived together"?

This is an ok answer, "none" or simply writing "we have not yet lived together" are also acceptable..

# 21 You would put N/A, some have listed the hotel or home they styed while visiting.

Wrong and wrong. "N/A" is wrong because the question is specifically asking about if filing for a spouse, since the OP is in fact filing for a spouse, the question is applicable. As for the second half of quote above, visiting is not living together, listing the hotel or home they stayed at while just visiting would not be a correct response.

Well for nigeria it has been advised for extended stays to list address. I stayed in Nigeria 6 1/2 months and by gollie I put our address down we lived with mum in law.

I do agree a hotel for a week stay is wrong but I guess some feel the time stamp will be lost in all the papers so they listed it there.

The N/A her not living in US why would that apply? The filing for spouse part on #17 was the part asking any others. They already answered for spouse previously. I thought. Now I got to take my form out.

Sorry OP sure didn't mean to confuse the subject :(

The N/A her not living in US why would that apply?

This is exact wording for question #21:

  • If filing for your husband/wife, give last address at which you lived together (include street, city, province, if any, and country)

The question clearly makes no distinction whether or not the person filling out the form lived together with their spouse in the US. It asking the last address the person lived together with their spouse, wherever in the world that may be.

I'm sorry I see your point. Dang my noddle head. I guess I was looking at it like u were saying visiting and living together are two different things. So figured if they never lived together N/A didn't realize u could put a little wording to explain.

However for Lagos, Nigeria since the rumor

on the street is 21 days is now required showing anywhere we can that we were together I guess doesn't hurt.

Thanks for the correct Ryan. And sorry for the confusion OP.

I am still confused. It would be nice to get some simple answers. The example I-130 has the petitioners name listed in #17. dwheels76 is stating I should put the name of the beneficiary in that box. My wife and I Have never lived together so question# 21 has been solved, thanks to all. But for question #22, do I put just N/A or the Amman Jordan embassy under "If your relative is not eligible for adjustment of status, he or she will apply for a visa abroad at the American consular post in:". Sorry to trouble you all. I really appreciate your help. Thanks a bunch!

How am I wrong on #17 clearly says "list husband/wife and all children of your relative.

The section C: is information about your alien relative.

USC fills out the petition, USC is reading the question

List the relatives of your husband/wife on #17

The USC thinks of his wife, the beneficiary. Thinks of her husband, which is the USC

the USC writes his name on that line

Read the link I send of the example forms

Out of curiosity - what is the likely scenario if the USC left Question #17 blank?

This paperwork is very poorly written.

I feel for ESL petitioners/beneficiaries. If those whose first language is English have trouble following these forms.. pretty poor.

To provide some perspective around my thoughts (on Question #17):

Personally, I read this question as covering the event that the beneficiary has a spouse themselves. ie. Perhaps the USC is sponsoring their brother, who happens to be married.

The I-130 already covers the marital status of the USC, and the beneficiary and prior husband/wives of both, on page 1.
