Hi, I was a foreign student in Canada for 2 years, I've just graduated in April, switched to a work permit of 3 years but I haven't got employed yet. I have a 1 year B1/B2 multiple entry visa, my boyfriend is an American and I actually plan to move in with him and perhaps finally get a job and switch to H1B. I'm going to travel by Greyhound bus entering from Buffalo.

- This will be the first time i enter the US, should I even mention to the border officer that I'm visiting my american boyfriend?

- My canadian re-entry visa has expired, so I also have to renew my visa. Would the officer give me an I94 that lasts long enough if i state my purpose of the trip being travelling + renewing my Canadian visa? Is it true the length of I94 is given to you based on your own intention of stay?

- I'm going to move my stuff by sea to my boyfriend's address, will the customs know by the time I'm passing the border, and question me about it?

- Will it raise any suspicions if I told the officer I want to stay for 6 months as a first time visitor? Will they ask me how much money I have to support myself etc for that kind of length?

thanks in advance!!

You know you cannot live in the US right? You are also not authorized to work or look for work. You are playing with fire.

To answer your questions, the CBP can do what they wish, so to ask us what they will do or what they will think is irrelevant. You may get a very awesome agent who waives you through. You may get one that asks for ties to Canada or your home country - if that happens what then? What can you produce to show that you are intending to leave?

I can guarentee you that if they know you are moving your stuff you will be denied entry. You cannot live in the US, you are not authorized to

Good luck

It is because of people like you legit people have so much problem to get a visa to come here. I hope they catch you

The harshness is unnecessary, I think. Unless people are involved in the immigration process personally, they tend to be fairly ignorant about the rules because they've never needed to know. The OP has done the right thing by coming here and asking before doing this and is getting helpful advice.

Seems a well planned effort, moving the stuff by sea to US and not moving it with him/her by road.

Just to add, not sure about Canada, but for other countries when you ship personal items by sea you need to provide copy of your passport and forms have your passport number.

Correct, she'll also need proof that she is legally permitted to LIVE in the US - or at least that is how it was when I moved

Good luck
