Why we have not received our NOA1..it's been over 3 weeks!

Thanks in advance to anyone who can enlighten us on this topic...

Our I-130 packet was mailed out on May 19, 2012 by a "middleman". Today is June 12, 2012 and we have not received a NOA1. Our packet was

reviewed by an immigration lawyer prior to being sent out and everything was in order.

What might be the reason for the delay in receiving NOA1? Could it be that the USCIS still have not received it?

Thank you.

If your lawyer sent it out, most likeley he is the one to get NOA-1. Is your check or money order was cashed?

Thank you Oksana & Max..

I gave him cash and he got a money order. Actually the lawyer who reviewed our packet was not the person who mailed it out. The "middleman" (who has helped many people

like us in the past) told me that I was going to receive the NOA1 at my mailbox.

Funny, he never mentioned the word NOA...he juat said I will be notified by mail. My wife just found out about NOA through this forum..

So now we are confused. I am pretty sure that our "middleman" is an honest person. It just seems that our NOA1 is a bit overdue..

It can take up to 30 days for the NOA1 to arrive in the mail. Allow a bit more currently if it was sent to CSC (which is a bit backlogged in sending out NOAs noawadays). I wouldn't assume he stole your money just yet. The fact that he didn't use the term "NOA" means nothing. NOA1 is not the official term for it, just a frequent one used on various forums. The official term for the NOA1 is I-797C, or simply a receipt notice.

If you haven't received anything in two weeks though, I'd start sending up flares.

Can u contact this man and get your money order receipt number. You can track and see if its been cashed.

Also it can take 30 days to receive.

What lockbox was your packet sent to?

And lastly going forward please read the guides and forums so you know what's happening with your petition and prepare yourself for the next step.

But do call that "middleman" TODAY.

Thank you.

It took 19 days for us to receive our four NOA hard copies in the mail. I never received a single text message or email, despite completing the G-1145 form and placing it right on the top of my package. The first indicator that USCIS had opened my package and begun processing it was logging into my checking account online and seeing the 2 checks cashed.

I know you are worried, and I would be too, but you're still within the 30-day window, so it will probably come any day now. If, after 4 weeks total, you still haven't heard anything, I'd definitely call USCIS.

Good luck!

We spoke to our middleman. He said that I (Frank-petitioner) will get the "receipt" number which I can use to track our status in the USCIS website. I was surprised that

he did not have a "receipt" or case number since he was the one who mailed out our packet.

He is not the one who will get the receipt or case number. Once your packet is "accepted" it is sent to one of the service centers. Either Vermont Service Center (VSC) or California Service Center (CSC) you will receive what we call the hardcopy letter that will have your receipt number. As stated it can take up to 30 days to get to you.

Did you by chance fill out a G-1145? That's the form to request your notice come via text and or email. You will still get a hardcopy.

But whatever address is listed for Petitioner, that's where the mail goes.

I had asked that you get the receipt number of the money order from your "middleman" so you can call and see if its been cashed.

That you can do while you wait. If he doesn't have that for you, that's a red flag. All money orders have receipts for your records and he should have provided that.

And you did verify and look over all the forms correct? Especially address for petitioner.

Thank you dwheels76! I will get the money order number and track it. I did verify all forms, especially my physical address. I am not sure if I filled out the G-1145 form..wish

I was told to do so but oh well. Have a great day and congratulations on your successful visa journey!

Aloha from Hawaii!

Oh good once you verify its been cashed you will feel better and yes sometimes it takes 30 days to get it. Don't worry about that G1145 its so wishy washy some get text and/or email some get hardcopy. But once you get your receipt number you can register on the uscis.gov website and signup for text and email notification.

And thanks for the early congrats. I am not that far ahead of you. Just 5 days from 3 months so sitting waiting on my NOA2 currently.

Well look forward to following your timeline. And don't hesitate to ask anything here. We are all here to help. Have a great weekend.

  • 2 weeks later...

OK..it's been over a month now and still no NOA1. We are trying to be patient. All our "middleman" is saying is "yeah, yeah, yeah you must be patient.."

Could it be that he did everything "manually" that is why there is a delay? I believe he did not type out the forms but instead just hand wrote all of

the information. Also, he does not have a computer so...

Anyways, we believe that he has not taken our money and ran but wow..

AGAIN...the NOA1 only informs us that our petition was received at the USCIS. Is that correct? Does it have any other significance?

please help! THANK YOU!
