When to buy plane tickets through K1 process

Hello just wondering if anyone can share their experiences on buying the plane tickets for their fiance through the K1 visa process.

I have no idea when i should try and buy ours. It would be nice to get them 3 months in advance in order to get the lowest price but with all the waiting on approvals and everything it looks like i will have to purchase them a week after she gets her visa or something

Im planning to go there for a week then come back to the U.S with her. I also am thinking it would be better to get a round trip ticket for her as well just in case she has a change of heart. I heard its cheaper then a one way ticket anyways

It would be a mistake to buy non-refundable tickets until she has her visa on hand. However, if you can find a ticket that does not carry a steep fine for changing dates, you may consider risking it. In the end the penalty for changes should not outweigh the fare difference.

I have never found round trip tickets cheaper than one way. I bought our tickets a couple months in advance but our plan was not to fly home for a couple months after the interview so I felt safe with buying them... still a risk.

I must have been lucky, it was either get approved and come to the USA or prepare to live there... hahahaha so I went ahead and purchased her plane tickets ahead of her appointment. Arrived a few days before her interview and went with her to her interview. Got the Visa 3 days later and left her country a week later. I was glad it turned out well but it was a big gamble. Air fare is not cheap and to have lost that much money on top of getting denied would probably be pretty devastating.

I bought a one way ticket 30 days ahead of time when we scheduled the interview. It was a one way ticket, which was cheaper. Also I could change the date with a reasonable fee. I didn't even consider the possibility of a denial. It did get close to having to reschedule due to suddenly declared extra holidays in the Philippines but everything worked out.

When I bought my wife's round trip ticket 2 months in advance it was $1,477, but one way was $4,500. I actually called the airline to ask why that was the case, and the person did not have an answer. If you do end up purchasing the round trip, be sure to cancel the second leg of the trip should you not use it. Good luck.

You may have accidently pushed the Business Class tab instead of economy. thats why they quoted you $4,500.00.

Sometimes the round trip is cheaper than the one way. So shop around. Usually the airlines come out with their deals on Tuesdays and Wednesdays of each week.

I actually called the airline to confirm what I saw on their website was correct, and both scenarios were for economy class ticket. I'm not saying the OP will run into extreme price difference as I ran into, but just wanted the OP to be aware of canceling the return portion of the ticket should they decide not to use it as it may cause issues during AOS phase of the process.

 There can be anything throw a wrench into the best laid plans. AP, hungover CO with a bad attitude, missing i dotted or t crossed, holidays, bad medical, lost visa, lost passport..........you choose one and it may happen. Save yourself some worry and have a bit of patience, it'll pay off in spades!!!!!

Not trying to advertise but hit this girl up on FB for ticket help. She works for Virginia Beach Travel in Manila ( Yes go figure the name) anyway she got us a last minute ticket on KAL. Manila to Korea to Atlanta, for dirt cheap 1 way. Saved us a lot and that is the best flight to the east coast time wise. She was someone the wife knew.

St. Raphael Travel hooked us up at the last minute for $630 manila-SFO. If you look at their web site you can see the prices in full once you hit the details. You'll get an idea here of what to look for in pricing. Best of luck and wish you a long and happy marriage!!
