Green Card Interview tomorrow

Hi All,

Apologies if this breaks posting protocol - but my wife and I have my green card interview tomorrow at the local USCIS office.

I am an F-1 visa holder currently on an Optional Training permit (OTP), which is set to expire in early June. We have filed the i485, i-130 and I-765, I have completed my biometrics appointment and we are all set to go for the interview tomorrow. We have heard many anecdotes that sometimes the green card may be authorized at the interview, and equally as many anecdotes that it is processed some time after this, so while we are excited, we do not want to get our hopes up at all (thats the Irish in me).

Anyway, I noticed today that my I-765 has been cleared and they have started processing my new employment authorization document. Is this a good sign? Why would this be granted if the green card has yet to be authorized. Is this a common practice and does it bode well, or does it not really mean anything at all?

All and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Puck.

Sometimes the GC interview is done before the EAD card Is received because of delays in that department. It means nothing as it relates to your interview. After approval you won't need it. All the best at your interview.

The 765 - EAD card is designed to be approved and given to the applicant before the AOS is approved. Its a temporary work permit that allows you to work. Has nothing to do with green card interview or the green card and the EAD is actually voided when the green card is approved/issued.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

Thank you all, and Inky. That is good news, it was concerning to me that I may have had to leave my job if my green card was not granted prior to my current EAD expiration date. That would not have been ideal.

As an aside, I am just going to wear a shirt and tie, with some dress pants to the interview. Is that ok? Too little, too much? I wear collared polo shirts to my day job, but I am heavily tattooed and do not want to run the risk of any kind of negative prejudice etc. This day has been a long long time coming and as such I'd like to do everything I can to have it go as well as possible. Are these genuine factors to consider?

Regards,

Puck.

Very hard to know what to think of that interview. After waiting an hour we were taken back and made to swear an oath to the truth. There were no super personal questions, the only raised eye brow from the IO came from the fact that although we have a joint account which we both pay into, we both maintain our personal accounts (these are long standing accounts from which our personal bills(car payments, personal credit cards, gym memberships etc)) come from.

A very sterile un-encouraging experience which was ended with the closing of the file and the words "We are done here, you will be notified of my decision within 60 days". She did explain that if I get my GC, that it will be conditional etc, and that it will be 3 years from date of issue until I can apply for citizenship, if I desire. I guess that is something at least! That and that I didn't get flat out denied.

Thanks all,

Puck.

Sounds pretty straightforward to me...

Check your online status each day - I would expect, from what you are saying, a positive response.

No every IO is going to be all smiles, cheek kisses and hand holding. Wouldn't that be nice? ;)

I think they are pretty bland about it in the end so people don't go toon sh!t crazy with the result. Either good or bad.

Sounds as though yours is good, keep an eye out for your card! shouldn't be too long.
