If the OP would be driving through the Falfurrias checkpoint, she probably lives more in the McAllen-Harlingen area (in the Valley) rather than out toward Del Rio, si man. I rather enjoy the cute little Del Rio airport, by the way.

The only observation of note that I have about the airports in either city is that the TSA is very aggressive at the Harlingen airport. However, they have nothing to do with immigration.

I've never flown from the Laredo or Brownsville airports, but if my experiences at the other four commercial border airports are any guide, there should be no extra "immigration" scrutiny at any of them, no man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thank you all for the advise. Tbone guessed right again, I do live in the Valley and will be letting you know what is the outcome of this adventure. Himher thanks for the insight also. I have another question though, my status while on AOS is called pending AOS or protected status right?? Because i had a lady (who works at a law firm, but is not a lawyer) told me I was OUT OF STATUS all the time until I get my GC, thing that seems outrageous to me because it could mean I can be deported any moment between the submittal of my AOS application and delivery of my GC, it does not make sense. Needless to mention I am not in violation of any rule, did not overstayed, visa still hasn't expired, etc.

Seems pretty straight forward to me.

one post removed for name calling, post returned below minus the tos violation.

I assume that you are in the deconstutionalized zone between the border and the rest of the country but inside the highway checkpoint. My brother used to practice medicine in Del Rio and I have flown from that airport and also recall the checkpoint, which was miles north of the actual BORDER.

They did not ask for a passport at the airport for the flight from Del Rio to Houston and there is no immigration counter, only normal check-in like any other normal domestic airline counter. I flew out of Del Rio on my drivers license as I was not carrying a passport or any other form of identification at the time.

The officer was incorrect in that with a passport, K1 visa, and AOS receipt notice you are in legal status "Pending AOS" and cannot be prevented from traveling from state to state, even from deconstitutionalized South Texas.

I believe I would gather my documents and try it. It's what? a 15-minute drive and they aren't going to deport you right there LOL. Otherwise, if too nervous I'd skip the drive and take the flight and stay out of that area between the border and the 25 mile checkpoints until you have your EAD at least.

Good luck

People are often idiots :P once you file AOS you are in a new period of authorised stay BUT I should warn you... there is at least one story i am aware of where a girl (USC) and her husband (immigrant) had filed for AOS, had their NOA1, and travelled on a bus to another state. ICE boarded the bus and did NOT accept his NOA1. They saw his visa/I-94 were expired and locked him up in immigration jail. About $25K+ later in legal fees and bond he was free to go but he did go before an immigration judge who threw it out because of course he (the immigrant) was legal to stay at the time. Didn't stop ICE from locking him up though, or stop her/them from having to pay all that money. The NOA1 only proves you filed. Doesn't prove it's still pending and that you haven't been denied. So just be REALLY wary.

I always have trouble finding the thread (with the above story) but I'll keep trying!

OP Amiga: According to an answer that I got from a sharp immigration abogado (lawyer) when I myself had the question that you now have, your status is "applicant for adjustment" or simply "adjustment applicant," si man.

Hello all, so I traveled yesterday by car and passed the falfurrias checkpoint. Just showed my passport that had the unexpired I-94 stapled. I had all my paperwork ready just in case, they did not ask anything. I was quite surprised after hearing some awful stories. One thing though, when the officer asked if we were us citizens my husband said he was and handed my passport, we didn't give any other information and were not asked anything else, if my I-94 had been expired might have been a different story. Just wanted to share my experience , thank you all for the responses.
