Hey guys, this concern has been worrying me a bit lately. I know that you have to be atleast 18 years of age at the time you file the petition. But do you think they may make it a little harder for you if you're still in your early 20s? Maybe because they think you can be naive? I'm 21 and Ive been at my job for almost 4 years and have a bachelors degree. Do you think that they will not take in consideration that you're completely stable to start a family? Im sure there won't be no problem with our relationship because were not that far apart in age and I'm ready to start home and so is he. Plus I got all of our paperwork and evidence organized in a binder for our interview date in case they start to make it hard for us... I just know that the consulate in Dominican republic can be a pain for any little thing....again just a question...some experience or any kind of feed back will be great.

Thank you guys!

Being 21 is not going to be held against you. You are a legal adult. Under the law, you are entitled to file the petition. So no, you will not be discriminated against based on your age.

if the I-134 makes sense to the folks at the IV Unit,

and yer relationship evidence satisfies them,

I not smell any problem.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Thanks Aaron! I guess I'll point that out in case they do start interrogating because of the age!

You must have all (repeat for emphasis ALL) of yer ducks in a row

when he handles the Packet 3 docs

and again

on interview day.

Age won't be an issue if you've covered EVERYTHING ELSE! (Draw a Venn Diagram if that can useful for ya)

Age is not a problem, I'm 21, and my husband older than me, and everything turn out fine at the interview.

What they look for is for you and your partner to show the relationship is real, since there is a high number of fraud in Dominican Republic.

So just take proof of your relationship, pictures, phone log, ect that will help.

I'd also like to add that it's not the consulate's job to decide whether you might be naive or last the test of time. They cannot deny an application they deem to be legitimate, based on speculation that the marriage might not last.

The consulate's job is to make sure that a real legitimate relationship/marriage exists at the time of the application, and that you are able to sufficiently provide for your spouse.

Age is only a problem when it makes the marriage either illegal (involving minors) or uncommon (large age gap).
