but it's not the case of saving money vs speeding things up for me.

My fiance just sent out the P3, and waiting for P4, we will not know out interview date before we receive P4, and even having P4 in hand, our interview date is not scheduled a monthn after receiving p4, so we got the time to wait.

Ah, okay! At the embassy we'll be working with, there are no packets to send in. If the embassy has the petition & thus the fee can be paid, that's the last step before the interview can be scheduled, so delaying the payment would delay the interview. Either way, happy news that it will cost less for us!

The cost for a K1 Visa drops to $240 on April 13, 2012. You can use a personal check. Read the guides on VJ.

www.uscis.gov/i-129f

Holy S*** No Fair!

I paid by personal check, but sent it next day postage certified.

And just to clear up any possible confusion, the petition fee to USCIS is $340 - The visa fee to the embassy is $350 (for Moscow at least).

From what I understand, the rate change applies to the K-1 visa application fee you pay at the embassy (previously $350), not the I-129F filing fee you pay to USCIS ($340). So, you will still need to send $340 with your petition, and a personal check is fine (better than a money order, because you can easily find out when it is cashed): that's what I used.

You can Track a Moneygram money order just like a check. I called their toll-free number everyday put in my serial number the amount and it said what stage it was in and when cashed it said that on day 6. I know USPS money order is another matter alot of forms and hoops to jump through. But I am sure if you got it a check of course is best.

Yes, the fee for a K-1 visa is dropping, NOT the fee paid for the I-129F petition.

The fee for the I-129F petition is NOT changing. It will still be $340. Everyone is encouraged to always read the instructions for the forms they are filling out. They give the info you need about fees, where to mail it, and who to make the check out to.

The fee that is going down is the VISA PROCESSING FEE. It is currently $350, and will be dropping to $240. This is the fee that is paid when going to your K-1 visa interview.

Filing the I-129F petition and the beneficiary applying for the actual visa are two different processes. The petition grants approval for the foreign fiance(e) to be eligible to apply for a K-1 visa. Filing the petition has its own fee of $340. The visa processing fee paid in the foreign fiance(e)'s country is currently $350, but will drop on April 13th to $240.

So, I'm currently about 5 days away from getting my NVC case number, and my fiancee has her medical on April 2. From what I'm hearing, she can schedule her interview for April 13 or 14, and she'll pay just $240 or RUB equivalent (for Russia)?

Is there a link that verifies this claim?

This is great news! I have to pay for 2 visas and that $220 will definitely come in handy for other stuff.

May your visa journey be smooth and speedy.

So, does this go into effect on all interviews scheduled for the 13th?

I've just sent an e-mail out to the "fees@state.gov" e-mail listed at: http://www.regulations.gov/#!documentDetail;D=DOS_FRDOC_0001-1913 regarding this date this will become effective.

I'll let everyone know what I find out.
