I've been reading so many posts and I can't seem to get off these forums because they're so helpful and give me so much hope!!! You guys are amazing ! I need so much help but my question for now is what are the total costs of fees that have to be paid by and during the interview process? I just want to have an estimate so my fiancé and I can split the costs in half. My case is being processed at Vermont and my fiancé lives in the Dominican Republic...any information given will be highly appreciated. God bless you all and good luck!

Quite a few of these costs are embassy-specific, so you're more likely to get an accurate figure if you post in your regional forum. That said, what do you mean by "interview process"? There's the petition ($340) and the visa application ($350), but beyond that it's embassy-specific until you get to the U.S. and AOS.

I'm really not too fussed about having things come out even, myself, but more with having the correct amount of money where it needs to be to pay a given expense when it needs to be paid, whether it's from him or from me. Once he's here we'll be sharing finances more in general and he'll also be earning money in USD, so there's plenty of time to sort that out later.

Daniel and I accounted for a budget of around $2000 excluding trips to see each during the K1 process.

Petition $340

Visa application $350

Medical with vaccinations if needed ~$350

Police check $160

Finger prints for police check $30

Flight for interview $250

Hotel for before interview $100.

Posting things back and forth and to the CS $150

All that is around $1700-1800 and the figures are around-about.

Everyone's petition is different though and you may pay a lot more or a lot less. I agree with the poster above that you should try your regional forums.

These prices also do not include the AOS, the cost of the marriage or the plane ticket over after the approval or any expenses you incure fom the RFE.

Thank you so much for the break down! But one question; the $350 visa fees are including the banco popular and interview fee? $140 + $210?

sorry for asking again

Yes. This is correct.

Read this information from the Embassy's Website. You will need to follow this after your petition is approved (NOA2).

You have some good answers but I want to add that such thread always concern me a bit (but not too much as at the end of the day it makes no difference for me)

The fees you will be paying periodically for the next four years (yes, four years minimum) are not even the tip of the iceberg, not even a fingernail clipping. In all honesty looking back on it now, I never even gave them any consideration, they are "nominal" so to speak compared with the costs of LIFE. Replacing the minimal things left behind costs more than the AOS fee of $1070. A brake job or a set of tires for their car costs more than the RoC fee. A semester of college expenses costs more than all of that put together.

There is nothing worng with planning, we did it but if the amounts of fees seem daunting to you...be prepared for a big surprise. Food costs double, utilities more than double, your phone bill will not go down

I 've been checking different sites because I am also concerned these are the numbers I came up with just for the 129f process.

129f = 340.00

Banco Popular Fee= 140 plus a 15 service fee

Consulate fee= 210.00 (day of interview)

Medical Exam= 180 without vaccines

Mail carrier service = 12.50 to have visa delivered to the house

police report for background check 9.00

Passport= 43.00 for 6 days or 70.00 for same day

I comes to around 1000.00 dollars not including air fare, hotel say etc.

these fee are in dollar amount not in dominican peso.

The fees are something that I have now budgeted for and keep in mind. We are having a no-frills wedding since the visa will be available 4 months after when we originally planned and he has to go back home for more semester of school--everything has to be filed immediately. It is possible that we'll have to start over but we've elected to take our chances.

On the plus side, if he and I had been married this past year, the difference in my taxes would have been 3000U$--roughly the same cost for the first year of Visa-adventuring.

I DON'T consider these to be normal unexpected expenditures. We can plan for these and we do. I also have a truck account that is set up for auto repairs and future vehicle purchases. (Car payments? Should always be paid into a savings account before you ever buy a car so that you don't pay interest.) We have an emergency fund, too--that covers funeral travel, vet bills, plumbing issues, etc. 1/4 of my takehome pay goes into these various accounts.

By being in a relationship with a foreigner, you ARE going to have many expenses that you wouldn't have with the lover down the street. Is it worth it? For me...ABSOLUTELY!

Definitely "worth it". Just be prepared for a lot more than fees. And yes the TAX advantages of going from single to married can be huge and in our case with college credits and child credits it was more than a $5000 refund the first year.

You are starting a family and that is a lot more expensive than living alone.

No doubt that everything will go sky high ..I'm in this and I'm 100% sure it'll be worth it. He already has a permanent job awaiting for him

Here and Ive been saving up I just thought we would spend thousands in the interview! Its a relieve to know thats not the case for now... I guess this anxiety of wanting him to be here got me worrying about every little detail! But thanks for the info....can't wait for all this to be over
