Hi All, I have a question for you guys! We are currently filling the affidavit of support (I-864) and working on Part 5, question 21, where you enter the number of people in your household and whatnot.

I put in '1' for 21 (a) for my husband, whom I'm sponsoring, '1' for myself in 21(b), but then in 21 © it says "If you are currently married, enter '1' for your spouse".

I am currently married, but he is the person I am sponsoring so what should I put there?

I looked at the example form on VJ and it has '0' in that place, but isn't it contradictory?

What is the proper way to do it? Please help?

Ashley

You have to read the form carefully. It said persons NOT sponsored on this affidavit. Since he is the person being sponsored, you leave that blank. Do not enter anything in that line.

Yes, that's exactly my point! He's being sponsored on this affidavit, but the sample here on Visajourney uses a "0" instead of leaving it blank. Either way, I don't think I should put in a "1" which is what I was originally going to do?

Read the question, it says "do not count anyone twice". Your husband is the immigrant, he is not your husband for the purposes of this form.

Ok, that make sense, thank you, we are just trying to play it safe

So in conclusion, I'd put a '0' in front of 21©, correct?

I don't want to leave it blank? Thanks again Venessa&Tony

Yes, put a 0 there. You don't count anyone twice, and for the purpose of this form, he is the immigrant you are sponsoring. Others besides the spouse of an immigrant use this form. Just for an example, if there was a co-sponsor they would need to put a 1 in that box if they are married to count their own spouse in the household size along with the immigrant.

That;s what we ended up doing, wow this thing has taken forever :) Can't believe it's 3 in the morning
