Hi! im new here and newly wed too and im just in the process of AOS and saw it will take 4-5 months im only been here for 2 months but already bored im just wondering if i can work while im waiting for the green card? thank you

No, you need your EAD or GC to be able to work.

No you can't. Have you applied for EAD together with the AOS?. If yes you should get EAD earlier and will be able to work.

As mentioned, you need to wait for your EAD.

You can volunteer, though, if you are bored and want to get out of the house! You can also take classes, etc. Just not work.

Also with an EAD get your Advance Parole as well. Advance parole will allow you to travel back home and come back in as many times as you want for 1 year. The EAD and AP will come in the form of an ID card. With this card you will be able to get a drivers license as well. If you file for your EAD and AP it will be included in the price of the AOS. If you file for it after you sent in your AOS it will cost you $740 for both. Good Luck

If they don't file it at the same time they can still file it for free if they include a copy of their NOA1 for their AOS.

Hopefully they'll just submit it all at once, though - much quicker and less headache!

Easy to do, all the different rules can be so confusing! Perhaps you were thinking of the fact that K-1s can technically apply for an EAD prior to filing for AOS and they do have the pay the fee in that case.
