Generate the barcode, then copy and paste it into something like MSPAINT and edit the barcode, simply cut it from the bottom

Simply cutting it from the bottom won't work....the barcode wont be the correct size....when they started putting the idautomation stamp at the bottom it seems that it also altered the size of the barcode (hieght)...not sure how to remedy this.

Does the exact size really matter so much? Most scanners automatically detect a wide range of barcode sizes. I hope not, because I didn't do any image resizing on the generated barcode before I sent it in.

How do we know what the exact dimensions of the barcode on the printout should be?

I don't think they matter that much, I really don't think using the barcode is the only way for the NVC to enter stuff in their system.

But a way you can check the sizes is by double clicking on the barcode and then going to the size tab. All you have to do is check it on James' shortcuts and compare it to yours.

You would know the needed size of a barcode if you compare with Jamie's samples. Just print his document that you are trying to adapt for yourself and then print your "adapted" version. Put one page on top of another and look through the pages at a light source

Cutting the words under the barcode - works. I did it for AoS bill, I had no problem. If you follow Jamie's directions CAREFULLY, they do work

I did follow James' instructions very closely.

James' instructions, rev 2.0, dated 05/04/2007 say nothing about resizing the barcode. Rather they only say:

"crop out the gray text "Powered by IDAutomation.com (i.e., draw a box around the barcode only and, e.g., in IrfanView, select Crop selection under the Edit menu). Copy the image from the graphics program either by selecting Copy under the Edit Menu or by hitting Ctrl+C on the keyboard..."

That's all he says to do, that's what I did, it looked good to me but I didn't compare the pixels like I guess I should have according to this thread. I trusted that the program to generate the barcodes exactly according to the height and width specified, guess I was wrong.

Hope it works well enough without resizing, because I'm sure there are lots others following these instructions without realizing there is a small size difference, but nobody is having problems.

I made the barcode using James shortcuts and MSPaint, cutting out and resizing simply in the word doc. Worked just fine, no delay, I'm preparing the DS-230 now, slightly more complicated but I'm sure it will work just fine. I doubt we will find some free site that offer the service without putting their name on it.
