I’m trying to complete form I-129F but I have a few question, please help.

Question #18: how long these explanations need to be? My fiancé and I met only once, will this be a problem?

Question #19: We meet thru a personals ads website not thru a marriage broker, what should I answer in this question? Is meeting thru personals consider a marriage broker?

Question #20: My fiancé is from Belarus and the embassy there doesn’t process visas, any ideas? Anyone from Belarus? What should I answer here?

Regarding the fiancé Letter of Intent, do we need to notarize?

If the meeting in person happened in the last two years, there is no problem. Keep the answer short and simple, including the date and location of the meeting. Make sure your supporting evidence backs it up.

No, a personal ads website is not the same as a marriage broker.

Hopefully someone from Belarus can answer this question, I'm not sure.

No, letters of intent do not have to be notarized.

Check the Guides for answers to several of your questions. The certification statement that you sign on the I-129F form is sufficient, notary not required. Hopefully, someone from Belarus can help with that question. Prior member posting is good information.

Good luck.

I’m trying to complete form I-129F but I have a few question, please help.

Question #18: how long these explanations need to be? My fiancé and I met only once, will this be a problem?

The size of the box is how long an answer they want....about two sentences. My wife and I only met once also.

Question #19: We meet thru a personals ads website not thru a marriage broker, what should I answer in this question? Is meeting thru personals consider a marriage broker?

No, it is not.

Question #20: My fiancé is from Belarus and the embassy there doesn’t process visas, any ideas? Anyone from Belarus? What should I answer here?

If Unknown, put Unknown....USCIS will figure it out. Go to the RUB regional forum here on VJ and find out.

Regarding the fiancé Letter of Intent, do we need to notarize?

No, but must have original signatures.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

Thank you for all the answers, I finally completed the form.

One more question: if my fiancé needs to go to Poland for the interview will she need a Polish Visa to enter the country? What if the Polish visa is denied and she misses the interview? It is my understanding that citizens from Belarus need visa to visit Poland

Question 18 is only asking for the circumstances under which you met in person within the last 2 years (when & where), not how you initially met. Don't even mention the personal ads website. Keep it short and to the point. It may be asked at your interview how you initially met and meeting online is not an issue at all.

Answer question 19 "No".

Answer question 19 "No".

To piggyback on Joseg's question about Question 18:

I have visited and seen him three times over the last year, but the only firm evidence (passport stamps, bus tickets, etc.) we have of being in the same place at the same time concerns a trip we took together on the most recent visit.

How should I answer Question 18? Should I talk about all of the times we have met in person, or only about the occasion for which I will be presenting primary evidence?

I will also be presenting secondary evidence such as photos, airline ticket confirmations, boarding passes, passport stamps, and so forth to verify that I was there on other occasions, but these will of course not prove that we definitely saw each other at those exact times.

For purposes of the I-129F, sumbit evidence of one meeting in person within 2 years of filing the petition. Sounds like the most recent visit would be easiest for you to substantiate. The other visits can be discussed at the interview as evidence of relationship.

Joseg,

I talked with my wife about getting the Schengen visa to Poland, and she said that the embassy sent her a letter one month prior to her appointment (you will need this). It took about 2 weeks to get the visa. I was with her during the interview at Warsaw. It was not difficult, and I was able to answer the questions during the interview with her. If your fiancee needs assistance on the getting the visa, my wife said I can give her email out to your fiancee. I hope this helps, and best wishes.

Question #18: how long these explanations need to be? My fiancé and I met only once, will this be a problem? I think mine was all of two sentences. I said that I had gone and spent 10 days with my fiance in April and during that visit is when we proposed which led me to file the K-1 Visa.

Question #19: We meet thru a personals ads website not thru a marriage broker, what should I answer in this question? Is meeting thru personals consider a marriage broker? I met my fiance on Facebook, same thing pretty much, and I didn't list it as a marriage broker. Just say that you met online and leave it at that.

Question #20: My fiancé is from Belarus and the embassy there doesn’t process visas, any ideas? Anyone from Belarus? What should I answer here? People from Belarus should be processed for Visa's somewhere, sorry I can't help more than that.

Regarding the fiancé Letter of Intent, do we need to notarize? I wrote one and he wrote one. We did sign with our own signature and we did not have it notarized and didn't have any issues with it.

My rule of thumb was to keep it clear, conscise and to the point without too many filler words inbetween.

Good Luck!

I will also be presenting secondary evidence such as photos, airline ticket confirmations, boarding passes, passport stamps, and so forth to verify that I was there on other occasions, but these will of course not prove that we definitely saw each other at those exact times.

On the backs of the photos besure to write in pen who is in them and what date they were taken.

Thanks: this is helpful!

I'm getting the remaining necessary documents from his cousin when I see her next week in Dublin, so I will be sending my petition around 2/8/12: later than I wanted, but happy to at least have a starting point.

I wrote the following for Question 18: is this enough (or too much) detail? I wanted to give a little bit of the history, while still keeping it short and mentioning the Nairobi trip.

"Aaron and I met for the first time in Entebbe, Uganda at the home of --name-- (my friend and his cousin) where he also lives, during my visit 12/27/10-1/11/11, since which time we have kept in touch by phone and email. I visited him again 7/2-7/9/2011 and 12/24/11-1/9/12, during which we traveled to Nairobi together to see his sister 1/6-1/8/12, and he proposed 1/8/12 in Entebbe."
