With so many scams going on right now, how could you trust any of these outfits listed on the web? Just deal directly with DOS certified agents. Avoided my post office, our city court clerk has been doing it for twenty years. If in a rush, need a plane ticket, and can hit any of the 15 DOS service centers with an appointment first for same day service. But may not be handy if the nearest one is 400 miles away.

There is no way around the fee, you apply yourself (you don't need one of those fake 'agencies' advertising on the internet).

The fee is the fee, you cannot get around it.

$135 is the cheapest I believe... 110 for passport app and 25 for USPS processing...

unless you drive to a state passport agency but you will spend gas, time, and probably parking since they are always somewhere downtown and there is no such thing as free parking....

over all, you will probably save 5-10 dollars if you drive yourself....

just an added comment -----

the cheapest is $0 if you don't apply for the passport. If you do not have any plans to travel in the near future, then not applying will be the cheapest....

A naturalized U.S. citizen who does not apply for at least a passport book (I always recommend to also get a passport card) is playing with fire. Devoid of a Green Card which had to be surrendered, the only proof that such a person has to show that they are not an illegal alien is the original Certificate of Naturalization. If anything happens to it, replacing it would cost $345 and take anywhere from 12 to 21 months.

No matter how tight money may be, getting at least 1 passport is an absolute necessity.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

President Teddy Roosevelt on Columbus Day 1915
