Not having a standing army is ludicrous in the modern era, it proved a huge problem just having a stripped down army when we entered WWII. Today there would be even less time, in fact none, if we were to dismantle our standing armed forces. Gotta have rocks in your head or no memory or knowledge of history to propose doing so now.

You think terrorists would still be trying to kill us if we pulled our bases from their countries, stopped assassinating and kidnapping their people and simply left them alone?

Slim I already told you Al Wacky deserved a good execution. Not sure how a cruise missile fired from a drone is less ok than a good old fashioned shoot out with a robber who won't give up. For a shoot first, ask questions later kind of guy you sure seems you are a bit mamby-pamby on the anti-terror front.

Because anti-terror is not cut and dry.

When we give the government free reign to "eliminate" anyone they see as a threat we open ourselves up to the government having the legal precedent to "eliminate" any one of us as well. We have to protect EVERYONE's right to due process while inside the United States. What happens overseas is a completely different story and definitely deserves a little more case by case analysis but things like drone strikes on Americans - even overseas - are NOT what our founders intended to be part of the federal government's powers.

For the record, I'm not a "shoot first ask questions later" kind of guy. I'm a "shoot first in certain scenarios" kind of guy. With violence we have to be especially careful that we're on the right side of the law and that's why it's so important to monitor the government's powers when it comes to things like the military policing people inside the US.
