Sadly, the passage of the bill is very, very real. If 0bama signs it, we're all sunk. The U.S. Supreme Court probably won't have the balls to uphold any appeals against it, which could take years, anyway.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I know my comments are not as sophisticated as many on here.....please chalk it up to my age and just now getting interested in politics......but explain to me why we are at war with 3rd world countries when we seem to be headed in the same sort of government and injustices against our people that they have?

Is it the oil?

world dominance?

we already got ben what ever (wont give him the respect of using is full name)so why are we still there?

with our invasion of iraq did we as a country create more terrorist than the terrorist them self create?

Im sorry i have tons of questions and i sit here daily watching so many on vj respond to politics with a lot more knowledge than i have im not trying to be rude or disrespectful these are really honest questions that i have.

The law is very real and very scary.

Any active member of the military that obeys an order as a result of this law is a traitor of the United States of America, just as any Senator who voted for it is as well.

This is a showing that all Americans needs to buy guns, buy ammo, and be ready to go to war.

"We have a Republican Party that is a Gestapo Party...

...Since Sept 11, 2001, more than a decade ago, there have been no terrorist incidents in the US except those orchestrated by the FBI...despite the effort by Washington to create terrorism by bombing a half a dozen Muslim countries, we're still completely safe. Homeland Security hasn't caught a single terrorist. There is no terrorist activity in the U.S., therefore there is no basis for this kind of a response, there is some other agenda going...to shut down the critics of government." Granted I am just halfway through the actual law in question, but so far it's as dry as unbuttered white toast and there is nothing scary in it.

Me thinks the hoopla is wingnut propaganda.

I won't say "I told you so" but I've been trying to tell you folks for years... when you let some rights be eroded.... eventually, ALL of your rights will be gone.

I think this is what everyone is getting hot about:

SEC. 1031. AFFIRMATION OF AUTHORITY OF THE ARMED

FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES TO DETAIN

COVERED PERSONS PURSUANT TO THE

AUTHORIZATION FOR USE OF MILITARY FORCE.

(a) IN GENERAL.—Congress affirms that the authority

of the President to use all necessary and appropriate

force pursuant to the Authorization for Use of Military

Force (Public Law 107–40) includes the authority for the

Armed Forces of the United States to detain covered persons

(as defined in subsection (b)) pending disposition

under the law of war.

(b) COVERED PERSONS.—A covered person under

this section is any person as follows:

(1) A person who planned, authorized, committed,

or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred

on September 11, 2001, or harbored those responsible

for those attacks.

(2) A person who was a part of or substantially

supported al-Qaeda, the Taliban, or associated forces

that are engaged in hostilities against the United

States or its coalition partners, including any person

who has committed a belligerent act or has directly

supported such hostilities in aid of such enemy

forces

SEC. 1032. REQUIREMENT FOR MILITARY CUSTODY

(b) APPLICABILITY TO UNITED STATES CITIZENS

AND LAWFUL RESIDENT ALIENS.—

(1) UNITED STATES CITIZENS.—The requirement

to detain a person in military custody under

this section does not extend to citizens of the United

States.

(2) LAWFUL RESIDENT ALIENS.—The requirement

to detain a person in military custody under

this section does not extend to a lawful resident

alien of the United States on the basis of conduct

taking place within the United States, except to the

extent permitted by the Constitution of the United

States.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Citizens and to a lesser extent LPR's excluded. So again much ado about nothing.

So the military can't keep you in custody... I didn't see anything prohibiting the DOJ from doing so. Or anything prohibiting the military from engaging you as a possible threat to be handed over to civilian authorities at a later date.

We should never, ever, EVER encourage the military to conduct anti-terror operations on US soil. Read the constitution. They didn't even want a standing army. They knew what that does to the civilian population. We didn't support it then. We cannot support it now.
