Apparently.

More bad news. When you get done doing this by yourself, you may not be a liberal anymore. But your sister still will be.

"the small stuff" being what your sister says to you over a text.

You lost. It makes three times(one with graphics) trying to explain it.

And ####### is this doing in P&R? Can this be moved to the Canada sub-forum?

Pretty sure that I'll still be liberal.

Just more pissed off at my sister.

Actually, I feel this does belong in P&R. I'm actually quite torn -- I consider myself very liberal. Never thought I cared what you did with your welfare money or foodstamps.

I thought more of you older folks would have first hand knowledge in regards to older parents and nursing homes. I guess not? I'm 25 and having to make this decision with my siblings. My mother had absolutely no savings so we (her kids, family) are having to support her 100%. Definitely know that I'll never do *that* to my kids or grandkids.

I don't live in Canada. I'm in the US. I'm a US citizen. I wish I lived in Canada because this probably wouldn't be as big an issue. Would it?

Hon, you're an Anglophone fe-male. Don't expect much respect 'round these parts, hear?

Look. I'm so liberal that I'm falling off the edge of the Pacific.

My sister is super pissing me off. She's had to deal with the majority of my clingy, needy mother's needs since we moved her into a close nursing home. I agree that it's not really fair. But here we go:

she texts me that "I'm sorry that my lifestyle doesn't include a job and a husband." (But she does have a boyfriend, a trailer, and a life! quoted.)

Since when is a job considered a goddamn lifestyle?

My sister gets over $500 a month from my father (who can afford it), plus whatever unemployment is paying her useless boyfriend who doesn't want to get a job. Plus whatever her useless boyfriend is making by selling drugs.

But me having a job is a lifestyle? She's the one who goes to casinos, waterparks, concerts, etc. while we come out even with our bills and mortgage.

it's so cute watching her grow into a conservative as she gets older. :luv:

Have to agree with Gary here...no one's shootin at ya. Of course I b!tch and moan about annoying stuff, but after almost dying, it really puts things into perspective. I think he was actually trying to be helpful.

My ex SIL was the worst person on the planet. She would continually embarrass me in front of friends, she'd show up at my salon drunk, drinking out of a paper bag, she was rude, nasty, etc. After she'd leave, the whole salon would be talking about her, and I'd be so steaming mad at either how she acted/what insult she said to me/etc. Luckily for me, the standing appt after her was a therapist

Therapist: let me ask you something, Lisa...you say she continually does these things?

Me: yeah

Therapist: has she ever done the right thing by you?

Me: no

Therapist: so why do you obviously still expect her to? Why does any of this surprise you?

(paraphrased cos it was eons ago)

But, I learned a really valuable lesson that night that I still use, almost 20 years later. When people show you who they are, believe them. And stop judging them using the same bar you judge your own actions...you will always be disappointed. It seems to me that barring some big AHA moment for your sister, she's not going to ever change...so unfortunately, you can expect more of this to come. Try not to let it piss you off too much (easier said than done, I know)

And it is no surprise she is growing and going conservative, good sir. Statistics indeed show that people tend to get more conservative as they grow older. I guess as youthful idealism and naivete wear off, and responsibility and cynicism move in, we start turning into crusty conservatives. BY not included in this survey BTW. He's in a class of his own.

Hmmmm...I always thought it was the other way around! I thought that most people tend to be more conservative when they are younger because they need their own money to provide for their own families and are (usually) very willing to work hard in their younger years to support their families/build their careers. During these younger years, the 'workhorses' give up a lot/sacrifice a lot in order to ensure their own/families well-being. .... Later in life, once the kids are through college and the house is paid down/off and the 'big career' is 'big enough' they tend to find that they have more time on their hands for for the things that they 'sacrificed' in their younger workhorse days, such as art/theater/philanthropy...inclusive of giving time/money to charitable activies...greater civic-minded activities. Anyways...that is what I've always thought...

But to the op's original thought, I agree with Gary...go fishing and don't sweat a txt...
