I have tons of questions about my packet and am just going around depositing them in the areas I see fit. So I sent my packet yesterday, I'm the beneficiary and husband is USC,it was delivered today. I've spent so much time reading this forum that I must have overlooked minor details that could affect my case. I sent two money-orders for a total of $1850 for I-130 ($420), I-485 ($1070) & I-131 ($360). 4 questions:

1) I'm confused about the I-131 fees, are they waived with I-485 or not? 11/2010 new fee schedule threw me off

2) Should the money orders have been split up into each individual form's payment?

3) I should have looked this up before sending off payment, but I've been so busy gathering info about the actual forms that while standing at the post office yesterday it hit me for the first time, I hadn't really checked who to address the payments to. I made them out to United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. Now when I read people's posts, I'm seeing other titles. What should I have written?

4) Both payments were made by me, obviously since my husband can't pay. So I signed both moneyorders. Is that a problem?

OK, now let me have it :)

That sucks, you only needed to pay 1070$ for the AOS and 420$ for the I-130.

1. Yes fees are waived for the I-131. Says it in the instructions. The I-131 isn't just for AP so some people do pay the fee (just not those AOSing)

2. No. A total payment of the $1490 would have been fine

3. US Department of Homeland Security but what you wrote will work too

4. No problem.

Your packet will be returned/rejected for incorrect fees (because of the I-131 fee when it's not required). You'll have a chance to fix anything you want to then.

Wow, I really appreciate the speedy and effecient replies!! Yeah it does suck since we're strapped for cash like nothing else...But as long as all the others are OK, I don't think I will lose much sleep over the overpayment...unless someone has any info on how to get a refund...?

They will reject the whole package and send it back to you. If you had separated the payments, they would have just sent back the payment for the I-131, but since it's combined, they will reject it all. You can just send the whole package back to them with the proper fee once you receive it. Good luck.

Just incase anyone is watching this topic, I want to take the time to provide a status update. I sent my packet on 7/21 overnight,it was rcvd and signed for 7/22, I never heard from uscis regarding receipt. I did request email and text notification upon receipt. Ever since then, I have called customer svc at 800-375-5283 twice, both times I was told to give it 30days before opening a tracking case. I checked with the bank, neither money order has been cashed. Today I called again, and the agent transferred me to another dept stating that since it had been over 10 days I need to speak with someone else. Officer Andrews came to the phone and informed me that my entire packet was rejected and sent back as of 8/9 due to incorrect fees for the I-131. She advised me to make out a money order of 420 for I-130 and 1070 for I-485,765 & 131 then resend. So, im waiting for rejected packet to arrive next week so that I can do the needful. Hope this helped someone in my shoes. Thanks for everything guys!
