K1 Passed in Kiev

My Fiancée passed her K1 in Kiev today. She got a lot of questions, more than anyone else in line about our relationship. Most women spent 2 or 3 minutes getting interviewed, Svetlana was interviewed for about 10 minutes. (this is the actual interview part, not collecting of paperwork).

I'm sure she was grilled a lot harder because this is my second k1 in 18 months. (My first k1 failed before marriage and the woman returned to her home country)

Lana said she felt like the interviewer was trying to trick her into saying something like we weren't really engaged or she didn't really love me. They asked a lot of questions about me, my work, my family, and my ex fiancée. Svetlana stayed persistent in her love for me and desire to marry me and the interviewer approved the visa. Luckily I had prepared her for this type of questioning, and told her just to stand firm and stay committed and the visa would be approved.

Anyway, this is only like day 85 or something and we're done...

G' luck to the rest of you, may your journey be simple and quick..

Brad

Hi Brad!

I am also applying for a K-1 visa for a Ukrainian girl. It is my first time though. I was wondering, why do you think your first attempt did not succeed? Did you want to send the woman home, or did she decide to go on her own? I think that it would be helpful for those of us who do not have the experience of doing this before to learn from those who have. Any tips on how to make things more successful after the woman arrives in the USA?

Thanks!

Honestly my first K1 I wasn't serious enough with. I rushed into it, and the relationship wasn't right. I went ahead with the K1 because well, I wanted to see if things would change here in the USA and it changed for the worse, not better. Also, K1s were so easy to get, and before the new law took affect this year K1s were unlimited, so a lot of people used K1s as more of a test drive than serious marriage material.

First k1: We had the deal we planned on getting married within 90 days (if things worked out). We just left the part in parenthesis out when applying to the consulate.

Second k1: We know we're getting married.

I have spent months over there getting to know my current fiancée. This engagement is like coke, it's the real thing.

Hello Brad

First of all, I would to say congratulation on your second k1, and I wish you the best for the future. I am considering for my second k1 myself. Lucky that you didn't get married to your frist K1. In my case, I got married to my first k1 and the marriage failed because of the dishonest from my ex. I met my ex, I didn't know much about her history. She had a boyfriend oversea and didn't tell me that they are still making contact to each other even she is living with me. I didn't find out until she has sent many sms back and forth over the mobile phone. She will delete all received messages, and sent message. she won't tell me who she is making contact with. Finally, I found a letter that she is hiding inside the picture album, and I confronted her. I didn't have any argument with her. just only asked. and one day, she left me. I have never abused her. support her in every way. I have never asked her to get a job or anything. I worked 12 hours a day to support her. I guess..things didn't work out for me. Now, that I am divorced. I would to give one more try for k1. But I am not sure if the second k1 is possible until I read your post. I always think about my prior petition will cause problem. Once again...wish you both happiness with years to come.

Billy
