What to wear to the visa interview?

Hi,

My fiance wanted me to ask whether or not it matters what you wear to the visa interview at the embassy. Obviously he knows not to look like a slob, but did you dress up? Did you wear your normal everyday clothes? Jeans etc?

We are thinking it doesnt really matter...

I wore everyday clothing in Holland in '03 for my K-1 interview.

It's not likely to make much difference in London or any other US consulate in western Europe. Those consulates tend to be relatively easy (unless you're from a high fraud country and just happen to be living in western Europe when you interview).

Most people recommend to dress "business casual". Treat it more or less like a job interview. There aren't any provisions in immigration law for the consular officer to consider the appearance of the applicant, but CO's are humans. Appearance and demeanor do make an impression, and can affect the attitude of the CO and the direction of the interview, just as they would at a job interview.

I wore Flip Flops and shorts, but I was just the petitioner and it was in Philippines to go with my Fiance to the interview.......
