I too had a friend who used hypnosis for smoking. One session and he's never touched another one since. I can get the name of the therapist if you like. I've used hypnosis for a phobia, had 3 sessions and feel cured.

After several attempts of patches and gum I finally gave up cold turkey. I had to be ready mentally to do it, and then it felt really easy (after 15 years of smoking). Haven't had a ciggie since June 2000.

You know, I think the turning point for giving up is when you feel really ready. I could look back and see my failed attempts would be because I really wasn't ready despite trying to convince myself and the world I was. Once that was clear in my head, after the few days of detox which was hard, it got better and better. Drink lots of water and herbal tea to flush out those nasty chemicals.

Good luck -- you can do it

Was it scary? I'm really seriously thinking about trying hypnotherapy to help cure my night-time anxiety and panic attacks... I've dealt with all my major causes of daytime anxiety, but there's not much I can do about being afraid of choking to death in my sleep :(

What about staples? I think they go in the ear or something. A place in town is called Magic Staple and it's for weight loss, smoking, etc...

I believe these so-called staples things use the same method as accupuncture. They pinch the nerves that they believe play important roles in smoking, etc and hope that will cure their craving problems.

I work in a smoking-cessation helpline so I have heard a lot about different methods of quitting from people that call us, ranging from the hypnotism, laser, staples, etc etc... :P

I've heard some great success stories for hypnosis, but I've heard alot more for laser therapy.

A good family friend runs companies in Ohio, Florida and soon to be Tennessee. 1 treatment, 45 mins, cured!

If anyone's interested PM me and I'll give you the website.

My mother did a quit-smoking hypnosis session one time a few years ago. The hypnotist was a loon and my mother still smokes ...

My husband quit smoking after his 21st birthday just by deciding he had enough. He quit cold-turkey, but I hear from others I know that the best way is to use some kind of patch or gum -- I hear the gum works because instead of putting a cigarette to their lips, a person can pop in a piece of gum and it kind of mimicks that familiar hand-to-mouth action.
