I was tired yesterday and am tired again today, so that makes me re-tired, si man.

If your brain is fried from all the fatigue does that make it re-fried?

28 days and counting, but AHA! there's a fly in the ointment....

the admin types have dredged up an obscure "rule" that says

I can't take any vacation days in the last 5 working days of

my retirement month (July). I'm going to appeal this BS...

My plan was to have Monday, July 25 as my last day and take

the 4 remaining vacation days to finish off the month.

We'll see if I can stick to my plan or not (to be continued).

I spoke to both of my bosses about my plan to retire on July 25

and they both approved it weeks ago.

HR - a waste of office space.

0nly a few more days to go. I hope you have a very happy retirement.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Yes I have so much planned. As of this point in time I have 2 working days

or 4 calendar days to go.

LIfe is a gift and now for the first time I will have more control than I had

in the last 32 years.

Last week I had the sad news that a good friend of mine who retired 2 years

ago has a terminal illness. I sent him an email and said that if there was

anything I can do, for example take him to doc's appointments, I'd be willing

to do that because I will be free in a few days. He took me up on the offer and

on August 2 I will be driving him to an appointment with a doc that I'm pretty

sure only offers palliative care. On his last appointment he probably spent

2+ hours on a train each way to get there, but I should be able to get him

there in just over an hour. He said I was the only one of the many offers

from his friends who followed through.

Two working days to go, that's great news. The world will indeed be a much better place with someone like you out there helping spread decency, compassion and humanity. You've earned this time to be yourself and your friend is indeed a very lucky soul to know you during his difficult time. We are all fortunate to read your posts and bask in your sterling qualities. luv.gifluv.gifluv.gifgood.gifgood.gifgood.gif

You're too kind, much obliged.

Today is zero day & zero hour,

but I'll probably be going to work

tomorrow to clear up a few final

administrative things. Still, it's the

feeling that I'll be doing it on my

own time that's priceless.

Bureaucracy is so crazy sometimes.

As part of my salary I get a "dependency allowance"

for my kids that is only a small fraction of the child

support that I pay for them. My ex-wife claimed

she didn't have email (we have exchanged email

many times but I believe it's her lawyer that told her

not to put anything in writing) so she couldn't accept

a scanned form I wanted to send her. She also said

that she didn't know our older daughter's telephone

number or email address!!!

I had to give other evidence to my employer because

the registrar at her university refused to deal with me

and report to my employer that my daughter is enrolled.

They would require my daughter to go to the registrar's

office in person so they can fill the proof of enrollment

document for me.

For this time at least I'll have to just wait until my daughter

decides that she wants to have a relationship with me.

I can't force something like that.

At least from afar I'm proud of my daughter - part of my job was to take photographs but I'm not

a professional by any means. Although my older daughter has always maintained her

female parent's hatred for me, she seems to be a chip off the old block as I have been

following online that she is both photo editor and treasurer of her university yearbook.

She also has two part-time jobs in the local mall. It's good that she has this independent

streak as she really can't depend on her mother for anything. Her mother has no idea

about her school activities, or else she just isn't talking about them.

My heart goes out to the kids because when I removed myself from the toxic behavior of my

ex-wife the kids may have been blamed by her because there wasn't anyone else around.

I hope to make it up to them when the playing field is a little more neutral.

Two of my best friends as well as my wife were at my retirement party on Friday.

I would have liked to see one or both of my kids, but you can't have everything.

Thanks again for the kind words, especially to IR5.

Something very nice happened when I came home today.

One of my very best friends (in my past life when I was first married to my Japanese wife)

sent me a letter from Japan. It arrived on the first day of my actual retiree-ship.

We've been out of touch for roughly 17 years. The fact was that I couldn't bring

myself to contact him because I was so depressed over my marriage at the

time and I didn't want to burden him with my troubles as I knew he was happily married.

When we first met, he was a brain surgeon on a fellowship to study Parkinson's disease in a NY hospital.

I struck up a conversation with him on the commuter train and

subsequently tutored him in English once a week.

After they returned to Japan we went to Japan and they treated us royally.

My Japanese wife was always a sour-puss because to her, they

were just "my" friends despite the fact that they were Japanese.

So after all that time, he is a director of a hospital and announced that he

& family will be coming to NY for only 4 days (I understand because of his

medical vocation). They don't know that I have divorced and remarried,

but I have no problem bringing him up to speed as my first marriage

is well behind me. He enclosed his email address and I'm going to

write to him tonight and find out if it is just him & wife or the whole

family coming to NY.

My Thai wife has no problem regarding them being Japanese :)
