How's That Hope and Change Working Out for Obama Supporters?

Their first act as a majority in the House after winning in 2010 was to vote their agenda against Obamacare's 'job-killing' Health law.

They've had plenty of time to draft pro-employment legislation since then...

They won't. Better employment figures go against their clear #1 goal. And no, it's not "Country First".

You know what I mean. You know that the GOP is more interested in regaining total control of government than they are in the economic recovery.

They are not wrong when they say that deregulation and lower taxes/wages/benefits will help create jobs.

Why would you create a business here if you can do it cheaper elsewhere and keep more of your profits?

Sadly, it's a race to the bottom, but there's nothing the government can do to stop it. At best they can slow it down.

There are considerations other than cheap labor when making decisions on where to locate a business. NYC would be a ghost town if labor cost or taxation would be the only or most important consideration. Last time I was up there, it didn't look all that ghostly to me.

There are businesses that have left these shores for good - no argument there. What America has historically done but has neglected over the last decade is tomorrow's economy. We've fallen behind in talent development, research, innovation in so many sectors. We're taking the short view rather than focusing on the long term prospects. Some areas we've given up to the competition without even a fight - for silly religious reasons in the biotechnology space, for example.

Innovation and leadership is what made this country great. We've given up on that and that is what is getting us in trouble.

I paid attention to the issues he was campaigning on, read his website, and listened (without hysterical bias) to his campaign speeches. Its a bit rash to jump to conclude an entire electorate based on campaign slogans alone.

I look at it like this, California has 12% of the country's population, and the majority of that population voted in Arnold Schwarzenegger for Governor of the State. He won as a Republican in a state that is 2/3rds Democrat, where since his election the ratio of Democrats to Republicans has been unchanged.

What qualifications did Arnold show that told people he could be an effective Governor? He was an action movie star. He was famous. That was all it took. He wasn't even the most qualified Republican running. Now look at him and California. pfft.

I look around at my workplace, and the grocery store, pretty much everywhere I go and mostly what I see are idiots. Not exaggerating.

I say 12% of the country's population is a pretty good snapshot and they failed. Why should I trust anything the average voter does?

Well, people were pretty pissed at Gray Davis at that moment in time, mainly due to the electricity crisis and rolling brownouts the previous year. Which I'm not sure were really fair to blame on Davis.

And Arnold was hardly the worst of the contending field.

Remember Larry Flynt? Gary Coleman? Who was that pornstar who competed?

See Enron California Electricity Crisis...They had companies shut down for several hours during peak hours and sold the electricity out of state. They created an artificial shortage and prices went up as high as 50%. The governor got the blame.

I always laugh when I hear about California from people that have lived there in a bitter tone. Its not like Arnold was the first Republican governor of the state after all. But perhaps you should also highlight his campaign platform. Not that it will help much, but you could try.

As for being surrounded by what you perceive to be idiots... well... I can't help you with that other than maybe recommend you move to where the 'smart' people are.

Ronald Reagan (another famous guy) was California governor too.

Whether the guy is famous odds not is irrelevant, it's his record in the job that's important.

It's Arnold for crying out loud.

I don't believe there is such a place.

I presume you are Republican then? So much pessimism these days with the GOP? :(

That can lead to depression, and depression is bad. Be careful with your mind.
