Yes, you send them in the same package. That's the best way to si ti. You can send the EAD after the AOS, but to do so you need to wait for your NOA1 from the I-485(AOS) so that you can have the EAD included in the cost of AOS. This could easily delay EAD processing by more than a month.

You can also submit the application for Advance Parole (I-131) and it is also free with AOS. I recommend doing so even if you have no current plans to travel internationally. In my opinion, it's better to have in hand and not need it than to try to obtain emergency AP at the last second if something unexpected comes up.

Just to clarify the fee for EAD and AP are NOT "included" in the fee for AOS, the fee for AOS is $1070. If you send the EAD and AP at the same time (or while AOS is pending) the fee is WAIVED for EAD and AP. It's important to know that because some people think not filing EAD and AP means AOS will be cheaper, it won't be. Include them or don't, the fee for AOS is the same. (there was a post just this last week where someone was asking how much the fee breakdown was for all three filed together.. thinking that not filing something right away meant saving money).
