Got married. Paid for certified copy of Marriage license. Had name changed at Social Security office. Went to State of Ohio license bureau to get a new state ID card with married name on it. She has one with maiden name on it. They said no until I produce an I 797 form. Doesn’t seem right to me. That could be months. I called the capital and they confirmed it. I booked a flight to Florida with her married name on the ticket for next week. I bet the airline is going to screw over for this.

if you booked the ticket in your married name then you need other ID to match your married name,at the airport homeland security,line....if or when you get your permanent resident card you can traval international,BUT if your passport is in your madian name then you need to buy the airline tickets to match the names.you can fly all over the us states with ID no passport.DO NOT LEAVE THE US,or you won't get back in with out a green card,

STOP PANICKING...It is okay......If you have your receipt for applying for the AOS this is the NOA for applying for the AOS....you can get your SO her state ID. Were in OHIO and just went through the same to get my SO's drivers license. Make sure to take your marriage license and her passport as well as the social security card too. No getting screwed by the airlines.....well at least not extra screwing. Your good so relax and good luck.

You can stand me at the gates of hell, but I wont back down.

Opps my bad. Misread that you had filed for the AOS. Still, your SO should have her K1 visa page in her passport. The NOA2 (Notice of Approval) is the receipt that you received when her visa was approved. With that and your marriage cert she should have no issue to get her ID in Ohio.

You can stand me at the gates of hell, but I wont back down.

She has an Ohio State ID but it's in her maiden name. They won't let us change it to her married name which is what I bought the plane ticket in knowing that she would be married before flying. Interesting that her State ID expires in August. They could do the same thing with the new ID in her married name if they wanted to. I would think since her name is no longer (blank) at the Federal and County level that the State would also want it changed to (blank) Even if she was deported her name would not revert back to(blank). I couldn't get in touch with anyone at TSA to ask if she could get past them. I haven't called United yet but i'm sure they will want a change fee.

They wont let her change it to her married name even with your marriage certificate? Jeesh the red tape can be such bull. They also wouldn't let my SO get his license with out the NOA for the AOS. He had to have proof of applying for the AOS before they would let him get his license. "United" will charge a big fee to change the ticket. You can bet on that one. All airlines do that and very much enjoy sticking the screws to your wallet. And I know from when my last name changed, that the id I had...had to match the name on my flights. Had to rush my passport and such. No way around it. You will either have to pay the fees to get her ticket changed or apply for the AOS pronto and hope you get the NOA as proof for the state so she can have her name changed on her ID. I hate it for yall but good luck just the same.

Hi, This is true about the I797C about Ohio. I live in Cincinnati and my husband passed the written exam for driver test but we were told we needed the I797C after filing AOS this past Wednesday. So today, in the mail we got all three I797C and now we can go Monday and give them the copy and they will issue him his permit/license to drive. It only took 9 days after Filing AOS to get all our receipts from USCIS.

I had the same question for international travel (I usually travel United so this will benefit you as well). Here is my response from them when I asked about ID: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/183541-land-downunder-aussie-aussie-aussie-oi-oi-oi/page__view__findpost__p__4135806

Unfortunately the link they provided me (in the post above) is now dead. Here are some other links:

This is an interesting news article that says it may not be possible soon to take a marriage cert as proof of name: http://blogs.wsj.com/middleseat/2009/05/26/new-tsa-rules-could-force-you-to-change-your-name/

Anyway if that doesn't explain it, she MIGHT be okay with her marriage certificate. Some people have been, but she might not be. While her name IS her new married name without proof of it she can't use that name. When i travelled in my maiden name passport I at least had my GC in my married name... unfortunately she doesn't have anything but I hope you're okay anyway!
