Military spouse AOS interview alone - anybody experienced this?

my husband is in the army and we just submitted my aos, he is having a surgery soon, and he might not be able to come to my aos interview, is this possible? i know that it is not good to re-sched the interview, but i want to know if i can call beforehand and let them know the situation. i need input, suggestions and if anybody went through their interview alone. thanks and much appreciated :)

I have seen it for deployed spouses, but not for medical reasons. Is he deployed?

he's still here, just about to have a surgery, just wondering... his brigade might get deployed end of the year to early next year.

Is he having a suergery work related?

You might want to take some documentation with you and explain he in hospital and cant make it to the interview and that should not be a big deal.

yes, it is army related and he was given weeks to rest, he is getting a leave packet for and after the surgery. just want to know if this could work out because i haven't heard anything like this except for being deployed. thanks for the input.

I strongly disagree. We don't know why he is having surgery, we really know nothing at this point. To suggest it "won't be a big deal" without knowing more could seriously harm their AOS process. Usually, if one spouse doesn't show up, the AOS is denied. Both spouses are REQUIRED to be there. I have seen people reschedule because they are giving birth etc. You cannot just bring in a doctor's note and "it's no big deal." Dangerous.

We need more information to be able to advise.

My friend's husband got really sick the day of the interview, she showed up by herself and told the immigration officer her husband could not come with her because he was sick.they told her: "bring a medical certificate" from the hospital,in order to prove that he was really sick ..so she did that,she send the paper and uscis reschedule a new interview and she got her GC, so as long as you prove your husband can not make it for the interview ,you would be fine...also,you can call them and explain your situation .

I had a friend that had to go to the interview alone for the same reason, she brought her lawyer and she got a approved, at first the IO wanted to re schedule the interview, but the lawyer told the IO that no one really knew when he was going to be back, so the IO asked my friend a few questions and she got approved. Hope this helps. I would contact your lawyer if I were you

thanks for all the advice, but i don't think i will be getting an interview anytime soon, so i'm not worried about it anymore :thumbs:my husband is undergoing a surgery next month and i'm pretty sure my interview will be in 4 months or so... i'm just relieved that i will not have to re-sched it.:P

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)
