But I will add, do not panic yet. I wasn't concerned until the tracking info came up that it arrived at our PO but wasn't delivered for some reason although I get every other scrap of mail.

No help from the PO either. They say the sender has to file a lost mail report.

I called USCIS trying to get a tracking number to track the GC, she were reading the exact same thing I could see myself online blah blah, and put me on hold to check for the tracking number, and guess what, unfortunately tracking number is for EAD employment authorization only, when clearly USCIS site said tracking number has been issued for ROC as well. Talking about misinformation line. Now I have to wait 30 days from the date of approval for another misinformed answer, what a headache.

And the petitioner who signs up to be financially responsible for the person they sponsor. Perhaps I should have said the petitioner would need their head examined. I'm sure people are being used for a green card, I personally couldn't imagine wanting to go through all this if I didn't love my husband, but I never questioned his motives as he isn't from a 3rd world country. Fair enough..

And I'm looking forward to another $450 gone due to his 10 yr GC being lost in the mail. Fun times.

Most of the time, the USC is genuinely in love, and has been duped by the foreigner. So, on top of the bureaucratic process, you can add months or years of thoroughly convincing acting on the part of the foreign beneficiary to the list of ####### they have to go through. All of this probably seems like a mere inconvenience compared to the hell of their daily lives. I suppose the lesson for any US citizen is to be especially careful if your newfound love is from a high fraud country. There are usually signs, if you can see through the haze of your emotions and notice them.

A comparatively small percentage of US citizens are in on the scam from the beginning. These fall into two groups. The first, and probably most common, are USC's who are relatively poor and are being offered a substantial chunk of cash (often $20K or more) by the family of the foreign beneficiary. The second group are people who have some other motive for wanting to help the foreign beneficiary immigrate - maybe they are related to the beneficiary already, maybe they are close friends of the beneficiary's family, maybe they are just driven by a perception that they are doing something morally good by helping someone who they believe is disadvantaged. The people in this last group are the most dangerous, especially when they get near a voting booth.

I'm reacting from my own perspective, I admit. I'm tired of lost mail in this process. This is the 3rd time something has failed to be delivered from the USCIS. First the EAD, second a RFE during the AOS process and now the 10 yr GC. The interview and the rest of it was easy, we have nice people at our field office. This mail nonsense is making me erratic.

We waited a long time for the AOS due to lost mail and now this GC mishap is just yet another thing. I'd love to know why every bill shows up at the house yet it'####### or miss with USCIS mail.

So you have to wait until the date of your approval on record? Which I see in your signature is May 6th? And she couldn't confirm that the 10 yr card has been sent out? Ay yi yi, what a mess.

Where are you getting that from? I'm not arguing it, I've just never seen any stats on it and I would have assumed otherwise. After all, aren't a majority of marriage/fiance visas petitioned by naturalized citizens from the same country as the beneficiary?

I think that means USC's are doing this for money which is foolish on their part. It's illegal and I can think of less stressful ways to make money. People who are honestly being duped..that's very sad.

This was not directed at you. JMO of my fellow USCs far to many Amercains don't even have a passport 80 or 90 percent . let alone an understanding of cultures around the world. They see something on CSI or some sitcom and think they understand a culture or real poverty. Not a chance.

Thanks, but the only country I can visit right now is Canada, since I can drive there, trips to 3rd world countries aren't possible unless they allow me to fly free. We don't have cable in this house, too expensive. Not all of America is rich.

Fairy tale view of the world? Pff, I don't even have a fairy tale view of America let alone the rest of the world. Pittsburgh is not far behind Detroit coming in at 5th poorest city in the US, and while I know poor in America is different than 3rd world poor, try keeping your house heated in the winter.

I'd have to agree about the insularity of Americans, and myself, I've only been to the UK, but that's a financial issue, not for lack of want. But you see on the opposite of that, if you don't have an insular view then you begin to think, well why would everyone want to emigrate to America, there are other countries in the world? But again, that isn't from a 3rd world country inhabitant's mindset.

Well, I'm not sure where else you would see that. I know buying on credit and lack of financial responsibility is a huge problem here.

I think we're ranking pretty high in regards to xenophobia in the US too. However, what confuses me is Americans are not liked by the rest of the world, and evidently do not like the rest of the world according to some statistics...yet this push to live here...

By the way can you keep us posted about your GC? I'm curious about where yours is now as well.

America gives people second chance also, no matter how often someone file for bankruptcy, there always will be loan available, people file bankruptcy just to get rid of their obligations.

Because its easier to get rich here than any other country in the world I believe.

About GC losing in the mail, I wonder if there's a culprit at the USPS post office stealing GC for his fellow fraudsters to steal our identity.

Yeah, it's a very fiscally irresponsible nation.

That thought crossed my mind as well about ours. I wish they'd steal my bills and pay them.

If there are people stealing and selling GCs, it would seem a $450 replacement would pale in comparison to what could happen in the wrong hands. I hope it was just some error and it is sent back to the USCIS. Or that your card was just not produced yet and yet to be mailed.

I've never seen statistics on it either. I'm going by personal experience (people I know), as well as the cases I've seen here on VJ. In every case where I personally know the petitioner (only about half a dozen cases), and the overwhelming majority of cases I've read about here on VJ, the petitioner is not originally from the beneficiary's country. This becomes pretty obvious when you look at the timelines, sort by country, and look at the names. There is usually one obviously Western/American name and one name obviously native to that country. The number where both parties have names that appear to be native to that country are usually less than 1 in 10. Of course, you can only do this with non-Western countries.

This is only for marriage and fiancee visas. It's obviously different for other types of family based visas.

Yeah, it's a very fiscally irresponsible nation.

My husband had a harder time being fiscally responsible in the UK because despite working full time, he had little to no disposable income (thanks to everything being so damned expensive). It didn't even help much that he lived in a flat his step dad owned so he could get away with skipping rent if he had to. He still lived very much paycheck to paycheck. At least here, we have savings and no credit card debt.

It seems paycheck to paycheck is becoming more common no matter where you go....As for irresponsibility I was referring to people buying on credit things they cannot afford.
