So my wife's interview in new Delhi was yesterday. She had a truckload of docs and photos and emails. She gets to the interview and it lasted literally like 6 minutes. The man said she was approved and she would get her visa back shortly. He only asked her like 6 questions and made her sign a DS form. The part that worries me is she said they did not ask for nor take *any* of her paperwork she took with her. She had a huge packet from our attorney with her interview appointment letter and copies of everything we have submitted along the way until her interview including police clearances etc. The man did not ask to see or take a single page of any of her documents! And I know he said she was approved but when she gets her passport back stamped with her visa, aren't they supposed to give her a sealed packet with the docs she submitted also? But if they didn't take any docs from her at the interview they won't have any docs to seal and give to her. Is that normal? What's in the sealed packet? Is it papers they use internally? Because they didn't take any of hers at her interview. So I'm a little worried. I guess I'll find out if she really was approved when she gets her passport back. Shouldn't they have taken SOME papers from her at the interview? Or photos? Or emails?

The envelope is her file from the Consulate to the US. She will present that envelope to the CBP officer when entering the US. If the interviewing officer didn't take anything then it wasn't needed by the IO to make a decision.

If they took her passport it sounds like it will be returned with a visa attached to one page.

Congrats!

My understanding of this process is that 'approved' is approved! The other stuff will be sent to her. They didn't ask for anything because they didn't need anything more to arrive at their decision...based on the way you described the interview, it was a cursory 'already approved' interview.

In other words, stop worrying, take 'yes' for an answer and start celebrating...you've got it made!

Congratulations

Just book the next flight here when she gets the visa delivered.

They dont take any paperwork from you, I believe you should have submitted the police clearance certificate earlier at NVC stage.

The envelope and passport normally comes togeather, atleast thats how they do at Mumbai consulate.

Her or no one shoule open the envelope, its for the immigration officer at POE.

If someone opens it, then it will delay her travel as you will have to obtain another envelope from Consulate.

she just needs to hand over the envelope to the officer at POE and they would complete the rest of the paper work.

Thank you all! I was just nervous that he didn't take a single page of documentation. I found that really odd to not take a single page. And it had me worried. Thank you all for the encouragement. It set my mind at ease. :)

It's normal from everything I have read. The most they will usually look at is photos. I truly believe the VO has all but mad up his/her mind before the interview ever takes place and it is mostly a formality.

Congratulations to the OP..

I seem to see the same theme in these interviews where the bulk of any evidence did not make a difference... For example I read over and over again to save the boarding passes... I've yet to read a single report where they made any sort of difference. This seems like redundant information anyway (the stamp in the passport should be all the evidence you need that you visited a country).

The direct evidence (write up a timeline of the relationship then provide proof of the timeline - passport stamps, photos, communication logs, receipts for money given/received, maybe affidavits from friends/family) seem to be all that is needed. Anything else does not sway the decision one way or another from what I have read....

**Note - This is not advice I am asking if anyone has experienced it any differently, please don't change your actions based on what I am saying **

Sh received her passport and visa stamp today! And just for others I don't believe the government shutdown applies to any government employees except non essential ones. Those working at national parks and museums etc will be unpaid but not the essential workers like those at the embassies and military etc. So i don't believe you have to worry about it affecting your processing of your visa.

Did she received any envelop to carry with her when she come to usa . my wife s interview coming up soon in new delhi any advice from you X86BSD .

Yes. Her passport was couriered to her at home and she also received the sealed envelope along with her passport. Do not open that envelope! It is to be handed to the border and customs agent when you land in the states at your port of entry.

My best advice based on our experience is of course to be prepared with all your documents, photos, letters of support from family and friends, etc but just as important remain calm, and confident. Don't be all scared and shaken up even though were all nervous! Portray cool and calm. Be prepared and calm :)
