if she did I would have told her about the midday rule BUT because she didn't know it I don't hold her doing it after midday against her. However, now that she IS aware of my observance of the midday rule then she should follow it when planning to prank me.

I think you've made way too much of this. Perhaps there are other issues with your SIL that are at play here because otherwise it seems like quite the overreaction.

There was no over-reaction... there was barely a reaction... I never said anything to her outside of mentioning the midday rule and that's when she said she never heard of it so I created this poll to see how many other people haven't heard of it.

In relation to what I said about how now she knows I do the midday thing and how she needs to observe that with me it might seem a little OTT but I was replying to someone else who said that I was wrong for thinking she was wrong by doing it after midday and I was trying to explain what I suppose is a cultural difference and how it's not something I'm going to change because it's something I've grown up doing.

You sound like a real PITA.

Because I do something different to you? You're saying I need to change what I've been brought up to do simply because you've never heard of it? Or because you don't agree with it? This is a POLL that started with someone not knowing something that is common knowledge in Australia... I simply am wondering how many people don't know about the rule. I don't JUDGE you for not knowing the rule. SIL didn't know there's a midday rule, I didn't know there WASN'T one here.. so now I do.

Some of you are turning this into some weird conspiracy thing. It's seriously just a poll and I find it odd that so many are taking this personally and turning it into personal attacks against me :S

No, because you take mundane and inconsequential details so seriously. Some things in life are important and some are not and you seem unable and/or unwilling to discern the difference.

Really? That's what you take from the OP? For me it's like you telling me there's no such occasion as Easter... that's how well known this occasion is. I don't even think of it as a rule when we're at home, it's just what happens on April Fools day.. like only eating fish on Easter.

You are the one appearing to take it too seriously. It's just a poll. I don't care if you follow "the rule" or not.. I was just wondering whether it's as unknown as I was told it is here, or if, yet again, it's something people from Iowa have no idea about.

You can't eat fish on Easter?

Sorry that was a typo. Good friday is fish only (at least for us), no other kind of meat. Is that the same here? I personally forget that one all the time (on the actual day I forget it's good friday then feel bad for forgetting another year :S)

**Edit - I only feel bad because it's something my mother feels strongly about... so I end up not telling her I forgot :P

That you are most likely a chronic drama queen IRL? Yes, it is.

Well if that's how you feel that's fine. I've read your posts and drawn unflattering opinions of you as well.

How do you live with the guilt?

It's a constant daily struggle. Like dealing with you.
