Hello VJ,

There was a question on the DS 230 that ask if you wanted to receive a social security card. We replied yes. Has anyone every got their social security card by answering yes to that question alone and did not have to go to the Social Security Office? My fiance has not been here the required 3 weeks yet to even go to the SSA. Just was curious of others expereince who have been through this process. :) Thanks.

That does not apply for K visa recipients. You will need to go to the SSA office to apply for the card.

wow! So you can't get the SS card untill after three weeks in country? That's interesting...

No. You need to wait 10 days to ensure you're in the SAVE system. Not 3 weeks.

You can also try before the 10 days but it's better if you wait more than 10 days 'cause some SSA employees have no idea.

I waited about 2 weeks before I went to SSN office to apply for it. Just to make sure that everything is in the system. And don´t let them scare you at the airport. They told me I have no right to have a SSN and that I only can apply for one after getting married. BS went to the office asked and 2 weeks later it was in the mail =)
