Police Clearance and Medical

My fiancee is in India and we're waiting for our NOA2. Is it too early to get the Medical and police clearance paperwork done? I've gone through the packet 3/4 from Mumbai consulate website just to prepare and obviously both of them are asking for Medical report and police clearance certificates.

Packet 4 mentions that ALL documents (passport, evidence, police clearance, medical report) etc need to be dropped off to VFS 7-10 days before the interview.

Thanks,

M.

I don't think you can get the medical done until you have your NOA2 and have an assigned case number, I believe the police report can be done before hand but make sure it is still valid at the time of your interview, some are only valid for 6 months

You have a while to wait yet as NOA1 was only Feb, not sure how long your police report is vaild for 12 months in my country so I would wait till at least May/June then get it all done.

Police clearance certificates can be time consuming to get in India but they last a year. My fiance and I have a NOA1 date of 12/1/10 and he started working on his Delhi PCC in mid-Feb and didn't get it until mid-March. He's going to his hometown to get it in three weeks, hopefully that will be faster.

Our goal is to have everything ready except the medical before the consulate even receives our case so that we can just drop of the Packet 3 stuff and the checklist saying we have everything without waiting for the Packet 3 in the mail as India's mail system is terrible. Hopefully that will speed up the wait for the interview date as some people have had to wait 3-4 months before an interview.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the responses. Is the medical done only after we receive NOA2? Would I just send a copy of the NOA2 to my fiancee so she can take it to the medical center and get the report?

Correct - you can only get the medical after you receive your NOA2. The reason for this is that your NOA2 will have your new case number on that, which is required to book your medical

i wouldnt worry too much about the medical now. most medical centres that do visa medical checkups will need the interview letter prior to doing the medical exam. so you have a bit of time to go. once you get through NVC and your case is completed, then you will get the interview letter thru email. then your fiancee can just print out the email and schedule an interview. depending on where you will eb interviewing, the appointment time will vary. my wife was going thru chennai embassy and had to go to chennai to do the medical. she had to schedule the appt 2 weeks ahead of time. anyway, like i said, get through the NVC and get your case completed then you can worry about the medical. its reallly probably the easiest part of this whole process and comes all the way at the end...good luck!

Hobokenworkingman,

Did you mean the medical date had to be 2 weeks ahead of the interview ? How about the vaccinations ? Did your fiancee have that done ahead of time for the medical at Appolo hospital ?

Hobokenworkingman,

actually not what I meant. the medical can be even 2 days before the interview. you just need enough time to do the medical annd pick up the report which is usually available the next day. vaccinations are given at the time of the interview if you dont have records to show that you were vaccinated. my wife got the vaccinations at the time of the medical; if you have vaccination records, take them with you and get spared the 3 injections. i forget how much they charged...mybe 3000 rs, i think. bottomline is that the medical is the last thing you'll do before the interview. as i said above, it is the easiest thing. as long as you dont have any major communicable diseases (HIV for example and even that I dont think they can discriminate against anymore), you should be perfectly fine.

take care of all the other stuff 1st. dont worry about the medical. once you get your interview letter, schedule an interview. reason i said 2 weeks is that apollo usually has a 10 day to 2 week backlog. you cant just call them up and get a medical appt the same day or the next day. they have many ppl waiting. typically its 2 weeks. so best to schedule the medical right after you get the interview letter. there is a 5-6 week window you get b/w the interview date and when you get the interview letter via email. you will get the medical done within that time frame. if you plan properly, you can schedule the medical 2-3 days before the interview, get the medical and the report and stay an extra day in chennai (assuming you dont live in chennai) and then get the interview also done all the same trip. good luck.
