Hi visa journey members,so far my wives immigration process has went well,my best friend agreed to be a sponsor due to the fact that I was laid off from my job and only have about $7000 to show on my income tax returns. My wife and I have not been living together because I am in the process of remodeling our apartment,it is a basement floor apartment that was flooded so needless to say there's lots of work to be done and I'm only one person so it's rather slow going with minimal time and funds and looking for a decent job.I see my wife almost everyday,we love and adore each other very much,I'm having her stay with a friend who is fluent in farsi and can teach her the english language. She had taken english courses in iran but they proved of very little use in the real world, she arrived here in the usa july 15th 2010 and has learned more english in a few months than she ever did in those classes so this arrangement is working out nicely, she has a place to stay while I remodel our apartment and gets english lessons to boot,it's a win win situation.I don't mind staying in the unfinished apartment,I have a sleeping bag,a heater and a stove so it's sorta like camping out and roughing it .We have used our friends address where she is staying as our mailing address so that no important paperwork gets "lost" or "misplaced"the neighbor next door is always home and collects the mail for us just in case some one were to steal the mail(it happens more than you may think especialy in the city).A few weeks ago we recieved her social security number and work permit,I don't know if the ss number is a temp or will stay the same once aos interview is over. Our interview is in a few weeks and I think the reason they want an interview at all is because of our seperate tempory living arrangements,my wife worries because it's just a womans nature to do so,we have nothing to worry about as everything about our relationship is true as is our love for one another, she worries that her english is not good enough and fears she may answer questions wrong due to not knowing the proper words to use so we've agreed to bring our friend along as a translator,is this permitted?? or does the uscis have their own they use?.A few things I am kinda worried about is our financial status,at present I am unemployed at least in the sense where taxes are taken out,I sell vintage guitars and other vintage items on the internet auctions and do pretty well, its enough to keep us afloat to give her money for the things she needs(food, sundries, cosmetics, clothes etc)and I buy materials needed for the remodel when the money permits,my damn car broke down so thats put a damper on things.Neither one of us has ever been married before, from what I understand they usually request an interview because they think the marriage is a fraud,I have had some legal problems in the past tho traffic violations(dwi)and a few domestic spats with my family that never amounted to any court case but there are still listed if you pull up my record, yes I know I should pay and get these entries exspunged :( .Does anyone thing my legal stuff in the past will affect our case?or our financial state?now that she has a permit to work we can start bringing in more money,I mean what do they expect a young couple with very little to their names to have?alot of couples don't have anything at all,and as far as trying to get financial assistance from the state(welfare)that is completely and positivley out of the question, neither her or I condone such things, she comes from a proud family and would not take a hand out even if she was starving,I don't think it's right for able bodied persons such as myself to collect those monies,it just puts more strain on an already dire economy,I have never collected welfare nor have I ever collected unemployment benefits and don't ever plan to.So in short what kind of questions do they ask us at these interviews?,are we together or are we in seperate rooms?are the questions decieving or trick questions to try to make people fail their interview? When I think of a goverment interview I can't help but get the vision of a police interogation,I know its not but still I can't get the picture out of my head.My wife sorta has the same images as you might well expect since seeing such things in her home country were people are sent to prison for minor offences, tho she has never been arrested nor dos she have any legal mars on her record, shes an angel and I'm blessed to have have her,she was a nurse for 15 years in iran and has the sweetest and most warm kind heart,I'd do any thing in this world to please her because I love her more than I love my own life.I took out a $50,000 dolar life insurance policy naming her as benificiary, also we will have joint savings account(I don't want a checking account right yet because of some credit card issues)The lease agreement for our apartment is in both our names and we have lots of photo's going back 4 years when we first met up until now, countless emails.I think this should be enough to prove our marriage is genuine,What do other visajourney members think?is there anything more that can help or is anything missing?because god forbid if we fail the interview and I don't know why we would except that the devil is influencing the interviewer and has his mind already made up up no matter what,I will put a bullet in my head if such an awful thing was to ever happen,we're the kind of people who always think the worst,What does everyone think?what sort of stuff will they be asking us?thanks to all for your time for reading this and helping out.

Sorry didn't read your post. The lack of paragraphs hurts my eyes and makes the post FAR too hard to read.

actually cases that get approved without an interview are the uncommon ones. im not trying to be mean or anything of that sort, but from one iranian to another (you technically become an iranian when you marry one  ) it wouldnt make sense for them to allow a translator.your wife married YOU,an american citizen with english as the first language, with no knowledge of your wife's first tongue ( assuming from your post ). the post is too hard to read and its pretty late in iran,so my eyes are half closed, but i think your wife needs to work on her english harder than any other subject you have going on

Hi visa journey members!.

So far my wives immigration process has went well.My best friend agreed to be a sponsor due to the fact that I was laid off from my job and only have about $7000 to show on my income tax returns.

My wife and I have not been living together because I am in the process of remodeling our apartment;it is a basement floor apartment that was flooded so needless to say there's lots of work to be done. I'm only one person so it's rather slow going with minimal time and funds and looking for a decent job.I see my wife almost everyday,we love and adore each other very much.I'm having her stay with a friend who is fluent in farsi and can teach her the english language.

She had taken english courses in iran but they proved of very little use in the real world. She arrived here in the usa july 15th 2010 and has learned more english in a few months than she ever did in those classes so this arrangement is working out nicely. She has a place to stay while I remodel our apartment and gets english lessons to boot--it's a win win situation.

I don't mind staying in the unfinished apartment,I have a sleeping bag,a heater and a stove so it's sorta like camping out and roughing it.

We used our friends address, where she is staying, as our mailing address so that no important paperwork gets "lost" or "misplaced". The neighbor next door is always home and collects the mail for us just in case some one were to steal the mail(it happens more than you may think especialy in the city).

A few weeks ago we recieved her social security number and work permit.I don't know if the ss number is a temp or will stay the same once the aos interview is over. Our interview is in a few weeks and I think the reason they want an interview at all is because of our separate temporary living arrangements.

My wife worries because it's just a womans nature to do so.We have nothing to worry about, as everything about our relationship is true, as is our love for one another. She worries that her english is not good enough and fears she may answer questions wrong due to not knowing the proper words to use so we've agreed to bring our friend along as a translator,is this permitted? Does the USCIS have their own they use?.

A few things I am kinda worried about is our financial status,at present I am unemployed at least in the sense where taxes are taken out.

I sell vintage guitars and other vintage items on the internet auctions and do pretty well, its enough to keep us afloat to give her money for the things she needs(food, sundries, cosmetics, clothes etc)and I buy materials needed for the remodel when the money permits. My damn car broke down so thats put a damper on things.

Neither one of us has ever been married before and from what I understand they usually request an interview because they think the marriage is a fraud. I have had some legal problems in the past though, traffic violations(dwi)and a few domestic spats with my family that never amounted to any court case but there are still listed if you pull up my record, yes I know I should pay and get these entries exspunged :( .

Does anyone thing my legal stuff in the past will affect our case?or our financial state?now that she has a permit to work we can start bringing in more money. I mean what do they expect a young couple with very little to their names to have?A lot of couples don't have anything at all,and as far as trying to get financial assistance from the state(welfare)that is completely and positivley out of the question, neither her or I condone such things. She comes from a proud family and would not take a hand out even if she was starving.I don't think it's right for able bodied persons such as myself to collect those monies,it just puts more strain on an already dire economy,I have never collected welfare nor have I ever collected unemployment benefits and don't ever plan to.

So in short what kind of questions do they ask us at these interviews?

Are we together or are we in seperate rooms? Are the questions decieving or trick questions to try to make people fail their interview?

When I think of a goverment interview I can't help but get the vision of a police interrogation.I know its not but still I can't get the picture out of my head.My wife sorta has the same images as you might well expect since seeing such things in her home country were people are sent to prison for minor offences, although she has never been arrested nor dos she have any legal mars on her record.

What do other visajourney members think? Is there anything more that can help or is anything missing?

God forbid if we fail the interview and I don't know why we would, except that the devil is influencing the interviewer and has his mind already made up up no matter what.

I will put a bullet in my head if such an awful thing was to ever happen,we're the kind of people who always think the worst.

What does everyone think?

What sort of stuff will they be asking us?thanks to all for your time for reading this and helping out.

First of all if there is only one thing I would like you to know is please do not say you would put a bullet in your head.I understand that this is a metaphor( I hope) for how you would feel if this didn't get approved but the best preparation for this interview is your own preparation.

At this point you don't make enough money to sponsor your wife but you do have a sponsor right? So make sure you have paychecks, the latest tax filing, and anything that would be relevant to his situation that proves that he does have the ability to sponsor your wife.

You also should know that you are obligated to file taxes on the items that you sell on eBay etc so don't get caught in that.

If you are worried about the living arrangements, I would get several affidavits from friends and family that show that there is a current relationship that is known to them. A letter from the friend that she is staying with may help clarify for the interviewer why you are not staying with your wife. If the friend is male that may be strange to USCIS because most men wouldn't leave their immigrant wife to stay with a male friend whilst they stay in a sleeping bag on a basement floor.

The SS number that your wife gets will be the same SS number that she will use through out her life in the US as a LPR and in time a USC.

Some people get interviews with a K1 Visa AOS, some do not. It doesn't mean anything.

Your legal stuff will not affect your case unless you were convicted of a crime that would fall under the Adam Walsh Act (Crimes against children).

If you are truthful then I am pretty sure that the Officer will be able to tell. The last thing you want to do is lie.

Hope others can help more than me!

ahh thanks Myopia. that was heaps better.

OP - having an interview DOESN'T mean fraud. Some offices interview and others don't... sometimes it might indicate they don't trust your relationship but as so many people still get interviews it's hardly a definite.

Living apart IS a bad thing but some couples do it for schooling etc. Bring the proof that you visit or call or see her often or something. Also proof of the remodel.

As for translator yes, bring your friend as a translator. It is mentioned in the interview letter that you can bring a translator if required. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. They prefer you bring a third party than have your spouse translate so the friend is a good idea and can also attest to helping your wife learn english.
