Talking about Katrina is hard to do without sounding racist.

However when you look at the communities in Mississippi that got hit just as hard if not worse than NOLA, and how they reacted, it says a lot.

We unfortunately had an influx of people into Texas from NOLA and they were very much unwelcome here with good reason. Crime rates in Houston alone shot up almost overnight. The riff raff made it up here as well, just not to the extent of down there.

Louisiana was a very corrupt state politically back then and NOLA was even worse than the state itself. Those people had no chance with the ####### that had been going on and I don't blame them for the levy breaking, but the political leaders who knew years in advance that it was going to happen eventually and didn't get it fixed... I do however blame those people for not getting the hell out when they were told to and being damn stubborn. They have ample opportunity and warning that it was going to hit and hard.

Hell, the reaction of people even today being told they are being kicked out of their FEMA trailers after living on the government the past 6 years is sad/hilarious at the same time.. It says a lot.

NOLA is and always has been a dirty city. A very dirty city. There's a reason why during Mardis Gras tourists are warned heavily about not taking a step off the blocks where it's held... and outside of the French Quarter for tourism, there's not anywhere else you'd want to be there pre and post Katrina.
