Is anyone else finding the fiance visa process or any family visa process is putting stress on their relationships?

Were finding that were arguing over getting paper work done and trying to work out when to plan the wedding, and well everything right now.

Its just where were pretty close to our interview date and were both sick to death of this visa process now and emotions are a little high.

Just wondered if anyone else was having the same kind of issues?

I agree.. you are not alone! Going through this process is extremely stressful and causing arguments, and we had never really argued before! But yes, getting through it will make your relationship stronger. You know what this stress and arguments tells me about my fiance? That he can argue with me maturely without being mean and hurtful, and that is extremely important to me! I think that communication skills that we are displaying to each other are a huge clue to the future success of your relationship. I feel respected and loved even throughout and after arguments, and if that weren't true it would honestly be a deal-breaker. I know that things are not always going to be rainbows and sunshine in our lives and our relationship. But after going through this, I know that when arguments happen in the future, I won't feel like a smaller person coming out of it, and they we will be able to resolve the problems without harming each other or our relationship. Hang in there!

its normal for stress to impact the relationship... It gets worse if the case gets put in AP after the interview... use the stress to bond together rather than pull you apart... its the two of you together aganst the system.. not against each other...

Just a note to everyone.. Please DO NOT SET DATES.............. DO NOT EXPECT THE VISA IN A CERTAIN NUMBER OF MONTHS.... it makes things far worse if there is a delay.. Many here had the interview over a year ago and are still waiting...

Hang on tight to the one you love. Stress of this process can and some times will get to both of you as it does us. I can not say we have had an argument over this. Our only disagreement thus far was the same we suffered by a friend of a friends friend attorney. We discussed the definition of a friend and we have not had that problem since. I thought the friend she mentioned was some one she knew and trusted, but rather it was an acquaintance.

She is calmer and easier going than me, but I used to take my frustration out on my partner because they were closer and easier but I learned long ago to focus my frustrations on the source of the matter rather than my partner who is probably just as frustrated about the matter as I am.

We never end the day mad or upset. All the air is clear or we continue to talk and discuss the matter or situation until it is gone.

This forum helps with the stress and wait in my opinion.

Yes, the stress of the whole immigration process does challenge a relationship. While we were waiting for our NOA2 (over 6 months at that time) my then fiance began to wonder if the reason for the delay was a sign that 'we' weren't meant to be. We had a big argument about it and we were on the verge of breaking up when the NOA2 came through. The approval was actually somewhat bitter sweet because for the first few days I didn't know whether or not we were going to continue with the process. Without having reached a firm decision either to proceed or to stop, I just proceeded with what I had to do next and we took it from there. Things improved and by the time I got the visa we were both willing to make the commitment to our marriage and our life together. We will be celebrating our 7th wedding anniversary this June. We were married a year to the day of the receipt of our I-129f petition, btw.

Hang in there and remember that this stress tries even the strongest relationships.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

We didn't. The fiance visa process didn't stress us out because we expected it to be lengthy. Manage those expectations.

I wish I could rant, rave, and complain, but it would be impossible. Husband reads VJ! :bonk:

Apologies if I state in a comment that my husband and I have been together for years & years. It's just that I can hardly remember a time when he and I were not together.

Ahhhhhhhhhh!!! We are currently in Administrative Processing with no time-lines to guide us!

My husband is looking at cars in Trinidad for me as his wish has come true! Me a Trini-Wife!

BUT

I will call DoS weekly to check the progress and I will not give up hope.

July of 2011 is the cut off date for us, when I will either start construction on a home here in the US or return to Trinidad to be with my husband.

It's hard to imagine how stressful it must have been and still is

for some other members, as you have to actually walk in their shoes

to be on the same page. Our visa journey was either on schedule (AOS)

or accomplished in record time (K-1 Visa).

There's no rhyme or reason for it having been one way or the other,

because so many of the "X" factors are beyond the control of the petitioners & applicants.

Just follow the guides, participate in relevant forums & do your best.

Even though we all feel we are each unique and special we are not. This is a huge bureaucracy we are dealing with and is the only game in town so we have no choice but to submit. One thing though is if we couldn't even make it through the visa process before breaking up then we could hardly manage to make it through a lifetime marriage so maybe it is good to see if we are committed to this process.

Good luck and God bless to all.
