I wonder how much suffering we would stop if we just nuked Detroit. It's not like anyones going to miss it.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Public schools are a form of socialism that needs to be done away with. Who wants well educated people anyways? They might end up voting in their own self-interest rather in the interest of the plutocrats. That can't be allowed.

Well, the problem with the public education system today, is it's very much controlled by hack politicians/individuals who want to brain wash kids in their own way. At least when it comes to things like social studies/history/science.

Just look at the big ordeal with the Texas board of education and their deciding what to put in the social studies books this past year. The scary part about that one, is that a good majority of the nation uses those exact same books because they don't have the buying power Texas has. So you really don't have a choice in the history your child is being taught, eventhough it might be revisionist.

Math and Reading are about the only two subjects that cannot be really tainted by politics/those with an agenda. No matter what that agenda may be.

I worked in a school where it was 30 kids in a classroom (overseas). Way too many even then to give each and every student attention they deserve in a 45 minute class hour.

Have no idea how they intend to teach anything with 60 students in a class.

It's not like someone who is an IT professional actually lives in Detroit......Ann Arbor, Bloomfield Hills maybe

I had a friend who taught in Detroit Public Schools - she earned every penny of teacher "generous pay and benefits"

What's kind of funny is that the recruiter has been talking up the corporate facilities, which are in downtown (I presume) Detroit, not far from the tunnel to Windsor. He keeps telling me how nice a location it is and how awesome it would be to work there. He's someone I've known for years so he hits me up from time to time to remind me Detroit is just super cool awesome.

I actually like Downtown - there are some decent bars and what not and it's nice by the river. Not THAT nice though. You wouldn't live there though - suburbs all the way.

Personally, although I constantly question the sanity of living somewhere where $500k buys you only a very crappy house, I would not move back to the D for love or money.

This is the city I live in.

Here are 2 properties in the $1.5 million range. These would be at least $10 million homes in New Jersey, right?
