No, for several reasons.

1. I spent four years dating my tattoo artist before I met my hubby, and saw a very LARGE percentage of name tattoos (for significant others, not people who had their kids' names or parents' names or what have you) come back in for cover-ups later. Cover-ups can be done well and done properly, but I've never seen one that I liked.

2. I don't like the way most name tattoos look.

3. A name tattoo, no matter how well done, wouldn't fit in with the current scheme of my body art-and there's a lot of that already.

I already have a large angel sitting at the base of my back - I call him my guardian angel and he has his head in his hands because I'm such hard work! The tattoo took almost 3 hours and hurt worse than having my kids! I had a custom design done and I loved the way the artist got him exactly the way I envisaged him ...

YES, I would have my love's name done. Maybe in chinese writing or some other kind of script - no one else would know what it meant - but we would ...

Nah. I think wearing a wedding ring will be enough. I don't correlate marking up my body with loving someone. Well, maybe the pain of the needles but, hoo boy, that's another story.

Anyways, don't see what makes this so special when there's perfectly normal ways of showing love and devotion.

Personally I don't think that getting a tattoo is an "abnormal" way of showing your love for someone .. it's just a bit different. I certainly don't look on it as "marking" my body either! Some tattoos are an art form in themselves - just look at the gorgeous flowers on the earlier post .... :)

Each to their own I say and I'll be getting my tattoo as soon as the "normal" wedding ring is on my finger ....

Unless you're rail thin and never change shape (most people aren't), the tattoo will stretch, especially if you have kids, in most mid-body areas. This happened to two friends of mine and the tattoo looked like it gained more weight than them. Plus the craters of stretch marks. At very least, you can resize most jewelry, whereas then you have to go through a process of erasing the tattoo and possibly re-doing it if it gets screwed up.

The real thing I see tattoo's as is identifying marks for law enforcement, and a potential for losing a job opportunity. But as you said, to each their own. :)

I won't get one because I don't like the idea of something being on my body permanently... my friend (girl) has LOADS of tatoos and piercings, she's getting a new one soon that her current boyfriend drew for her. She's only 20 so I do wonder if she'll have regrets in the future, but it doesn't seem that way. She's pretty confident that she's in love with him and will be forever, as well all of her body artwork. She's an artist, too.

Anyways, I've asked my fiancee about this and he said he doesn't want me to ruin my skin because it's beautiful, and he doesn't need that to symbolise anything.

Sure, why not? If the relationship ends at some point, you can find a good tattoo artist to do a cover-up. Some of the most impressive tattoo work I've seen involves cover-ups. Not to be pessimistic, of course, but I guess this is the obvious concern.

Of course, most (if not all) hidden parts are prone to stretching as you get older, even if you don't put on much weight or have a baby.

We just don't like tattoo in general - it's personal thing.

I have a fried who had done a dolphin tattoo done when in college - I bet he gained at least 15-20 pounds when I saw him 3 years ago. I wonder if that dolphin has evolved into a whale
