I don't know if my call and being given a service request helped, but we got our approval within days of placing the phone call. Maybe we would have gotten it anyway, there is no way of telling that I am aware of. buena suerte.

So they actually let you to put the service request. Thats a good sign already, as before there would be tones of excuses that system doesnt allow to process with request, 'call us in 30'. Thanks for update, we may try this week - if thr would be no sign on approval coming. Good luck !

Wow, that is awesome that they let you put in a service request. I was over 6 months and I had to request Tier 2 and then I still had to beg/plea for a service request. That was a week ago...still nothing.

Yea, I think I read earlier about the difficulties many of you were having last week with this. Surprisingly it went very smooth and I did not have to request Tier 2 or anything. The guy was very nice and simply saw that it was after 5 months normal processing time and said he will put in a service request. I actually did not even ask for it; he got to it before I needed to ask.

I think I should congratulate you succeeded to place that request, Congrats ! I just spoke with a friend of mine on FB - VisaJourney, he reached same 5 months since NOA1 and when he called (tier 2) they told him they cannot put a request yet and he needs to wait another 45 days ! I found again VDS ...at least weird ..... Anyway I read lots of posts where they put a request and they got the approval within days .

Good luck and happy Valentines Day !

PS. In 2 day I will start TRYING to put a request too ...

Getting an approval within days...now that would be awesome! But of course, I can't be expecting anything with the VDC.

Do keep us posted on that. Although service requests are about as useful as screen door on submarines, their willingness to take them is a good indication of where they think their backlogs are.

And remember that if the first phone boy turns you down, you sometimes get better results hanging up and calling again.

NOA1 - 7/23/10

1/24/11 (six months plus one day) E-mailed vsc.ncscfollowup@dhs.gov

1/28/11 called in response to E-mail reply, placed service request.

1/31/11 - NOA2

I don't know if the service request made a difference, but it appears so.

It seemed at the time that there were a few July '10 stragglers, half of August was NOA2 already.

I'm guessing that there is some process issue at VSC/VDC that they fix by exception.

So can you start calling on the 5 month date? Or 5 months 1 day? Thanks

You should be able to call once you are outside the "normal" processing time, which according to their website is 5 months. Whether they consider that 5 months or 5 months and 1 day, I do not know.

One strategy that I had was to call them a week and a half before the 5 months, because I knew the phone jockey would say that the normal processing time was 5 months. I then got his ID number and was prepared to quote him on that if they gave me any fuss. Fortunately it was easier than expected for me and they did what they were supposed to without me having to unleash the ID.
