I hope that I and my loved ones could never become that desperate and despondent. Suicide is such a permanent solution to what is usually only a temporary problem!

My cousin and the leadman at my last job both killed themselves last year. One hanged himself, the other shot himself. Both are equally dead.

It's truly sad we don't have background checks on rope. If rope wasn't carelessly sold to anyone that comes into the hardware store, it's possible those with mental problems could be counseled before they took their own lives.

What I meant is that if I wanted to kill myself using a gun, I would have to go out and buy a gun because I am not a gun owner. Impulse control isn't an issue when the gun isn't even around.

You live in Bahstan, right? It shouldn't take you more than a few hours to locate a gun.

I've purchased several guns in my lifetime and without fail, each transaction has taken enough time to require any reasonable person to cool off. It's not like you're picking up a gallon of milk and going through the self-checkout when you purchase a gun.

Even in private sales where no background check is required it's still a process of meeting someone somewhere - and almost always BSing with them for a while - before completing the transaction.

Still making rash judgements after driving across town, BSing for a while, standing in line, filling out paperwork, etc.? If so, you're probably not a reasonable person.

I wonder.... if the kid had instead used his moms sleeping pills..... would she still be arrested for not securing this dangerous item?

How about if it was his moms Razor blades used to cut his wrists?

... or rope from the garage?

Why is it when the kids uses one device we blame mom .. but only for this one?

Most states already state you must be 21 to purchase alcohol. Do you want it raised to 25? 40? 55?

Sleeping pills are used to help one fall asleep.

Razor blades are used to shave your face or legs.

Rope - lots of uses.

Guns are used to inflict injury or death.

Actually, BB guns are for shooting sand hornets.

I remember (when I was a little girl) that there were a nest of sand hornets along the carport. I remember my Daddy sitting there for an hour or so, waiting for one of them to come out. Shot him clean with the BB gun.

bb's are notoriously inaccurate due to their shape - best to shoot pellets.

also - bb guns are not classified as firearms so quite often anyone can buy them. there may be local ordinances restricting sales based on a minimum age.

When I shoot a paper target, I want to be sure it's dead with the first shot, so I prefer using a grenade launcher....a bullseye every time!
