Lucky he didn't hang himself then we would get a law banning rope or whatever he used to hang himself. Maybe we can have them behind the counter so if anyone wants to buy rope they have to get the interrogation on why they want the rope. He we could do what a council woman tried to do when a kid jumped from a bridge trying to commit suicide. (Yes tried but failed) She tried to introduce legislation to make it illegal to commit suicide by jumping from bridges. She dropped it after she was ridiculed and shown it was against the law to commit suicide in the first place. There are many ways people kill themselves so since peoples panties are in a wad over this we can start outlawing all of them and hope no one comes up with a new way.

To make this simple that even Socialists can understand. If someone wants to really kill themselves they will one way or another.blink.gif

Let me make this simple so rwn's can understand. (I hope that is actually possible!) If someone has a temporary impulse to kill themselves, lack of ready availability of a way to do this may help them stay alive! (Oops, too many of them there big words those dxxn libruls like to use!)

Most suicides and acts of violence are done in moments of rash judgment, which is why they call those wait times, cooling off periods. Suicidal thoughts are common among teenagers and most don't act on them, especially when carrying it out requires a lot preparation and planning.

So you are an expert on suicide now?

Now that is really an epithet! Calling him an expert! Those damn elitist, expert libruls!

Since when is there something wrong or suspect about being informed on issues of public interest? Of course, being informed seems not to be necessary for many who are such insta-pundits here!

Your honesty is refreshing.

Public record, dude.

If someone has a temporary impulse to kill themselves,

Why would someone have a temporary impulse to kill themselves?

My work puts me in a position to see many such people. Our goal in dealing with them is to keep them safe during the period of time when they are at risk of availing themselves of that 'permanent solution to a temporary problem'. The most important things we do are to ascertain they have no access to guns or to potentially lethal drugs. Usually that is enough, though you are of course right that if they are sufficiently motivated they will find a way. But yes, Slim, the majority of people who face the urge to take their own life experience this as a very temporary condition.

Who pays for all that?

Insurance, if it is available. Family members. Sometimes (often) there is no payment other than satisfaction in saving lives and healing illness.

So tax payers don't pay for that, then?

Guns don't kill: Bullets do.

Same old guy --my point was --guns are harmless if left alone or used properly .People kill people .They can use any weapon to kill if they so wish or set out to do harm .

If they have tax-payer paid insurance, yes. Members of the military, their families, military retirees, federal and state workers, medicare recipients, medicaid recipients, I am probably forgetting some... Is that a problem for you?

Yep.

We're paying to keep people alive. I don't think we should do that.

Not really. Firearms are great equalizers, since you do not have to directly touch the person with the weapon to make it effective. All you need is s fairly good aim, a willingness to get close enough to hit your target, and the strength to pull the trigger. Almost all other weapons require strength and/or skill to make them effective. I personally have taken away knives, baseball bats, iron pipes, tow chains, crow bars, hammers, and a framing square over the years when they were used when to attack me, or someone else. I didn't even receive a scratch, or a bruise in the process. That is skill. I have been shot at as well, but not close enough to be effective. That is luck. That is the difference.
