Medical exam now or when RFE is received?

Howdy,

I wanted to see what you think is better.

I did submitt the AOS without the I-693 (medical exam), so I know that it is missing.

It is my understanding that I can not just get the I-693 and send it in as an addition to my pacakage.

Rather do I need to wait for an RFE asking for the I-693.

Is this correct?

If yes, should I go ahead and get the medical done now? or should I wait for the RFE?

04/2006 - came to US as L1 employee

04/2010 - got married

11/2010 - submitted AOS package (I-130, I-485, I-765)

05/2011 - Welcome letter arrived in the mail

11/2017 - Filed for naturalization (Online Houston office)

11/2017 - Biometrics

06/2018 - Interview (passed)

06/2018 - Case approved notification

You can get the medical done now and send it in once you receive the RFE.

11/10/10 ------- NOA1 received for I-130, I-485 and I-765 (emails)

11/12/10 ------- NOA1 received for I-130, I-485 and I-765 (hard copies)

11/12/10 ------- Touches on I-130, I-485 and I-765

11/19/10 ------- Biometrics appointment letter received

12/06/10 ------- RFE for I-693 (I think the issue is that it was not signed. Called USCIS and will receive a letter in a few days explaining)

12/13/10 ------- Biometrics done

12/16/10 ------- EAD card in production (email)

12/20/10 ------- Received "Letter of Explanation" for RFE (Service Request to expedite my case. Called USCIS and was told to ignore that and just send in response to RFE.)

12/22/10 ------- Touch (Email for Post Decision Activity on EAD saying that a letter of approval has been mailed out)

12/24/10 ------- Received EAD in the mail

12/27/10 ------- Applied for SSN

12/31/10 ------- Received Interview letter

01/03/11 ------- Received SSN card in the mail

01/07/11 ------- Mailed out response to RFE (I-693)

01/15/11 ------- Email confirming USCIS received RFE response

01/31/11 ------- Approved!

Pre-Adjustment of Status:

2006 -------- Met Online

02/07 ------- Visited him in the U.S. for what was suppose to be a few weeks (Came in with birth certificate and health card. Health card expired a few months after)

08/07 ------- Decided to get married because we didn't want to be apart (in the U.S.)

10/10 ------- USCIS Medical Done

Agreed...if you send the medical in now, there's a very good chance it will be lost. A medical is good for one year, so I'd go ahead and get it done now, so you'll be able to send it in as soon as you get the RFE.

12/3/10 hubby surprised me with a trip to Los Angeles for my birthday...no problems :)

12/15/10 [day 23]- rec'd biometrics appt set for Dec. 28th at 10 am! :)

12/28/10 [day 36]- successful biometrics appt

...and another agreeing post - as my pre-poster's mentioned, the exam is good for 12 months, get it out of your way and just wait for USCIS to tell you that they want it, so they can match their request with your submission :)

12/12/2012 - NOA 1, status extension received

12/18/2012 - Biometrics appointment letter received

OMG,I thought I had to send I-693 along with my application or it would be rejected without I-693.I sent my application out kinda late just because I had to wait to pick up my medical exam! If I had known it could be sent later, I would've just sent my application long time ago

11/8/10: Medical exam

11/12/10:Get married

11/19/10: I-693 sealed.It means my chest x ray is fine :)

11/20/10: Package [ I-130,I-485,I-765] sent to Lockbox

11/22/10 [Day 1]: Delivered there

Huh? So is it normal to not send in you medical info (I-693) with your AOS package? I thought the best thing was to send it all together? How often does it get lost? And why is there a greater chance of it getting lost if you submit it with the rest of the AOS packet?

No it's absolutely not normal to send the AOS packet without the I-693, but since the OP did that, it's best for him to wait for the RFE before sending it in. If you did the medical and sent in the I-693 with your other forms, that is the best and less time consuming thing to do! :) I meant it would have a good chance of getting lost if he sent it in without his other forms AND without the RFE. Sorry for the confusion.

Your application would not have been rejected per se, but it would have been delayed. And you only have so long to respond to an RFE. So in your case, I definitely think it was better to wait for your I-693.

It's better to wait for the RFE because then you have an official request for a specific form (Meaning, they've accepted the original paperwork and have assigned it a number). When they receive it, they will match form with case. If you decide to just send it in yourself, they might have a hard time figuring out where it's suppose to go.

Exactly, couldn't agree more, once you get your NOA1s you will have receipt numbers, an A-number that you can put on a coversheet when you send in the medical exam results, less confusion, less delays :)

The OP has already sent their AOS package, and they sent it WITHOUT the medical (not normal and can result in quite a delay).

If the OP was to do the medical now, they will need to wait for the RFE to come asking for the medical. If they tried to send th medical by itself it will most likely never meet the original file and be a complete waste of money.

It is ALWAYS best to send everything all at once (except when it comes to ROC with a divorce waiver.. but that's another story).

I called 2 doctors in the Dallas area, one was charging $420 and the other $295.

In both cases including all shots.

Both where walk ins.

So tuesday I went to the $295 office and today I got my papers in the sealed envelope.

It really was not a big deal. No idea why I was a bit spooked about it, maybe because someone told me that the USCIS certified doctors are not very good.

The office itself was not nice, but the people there knew what they where doing and they where pretty nice.

Congratulation on the medical!

I think people's beef with civil surgeon is that some of them tend to grossly overcharge. I was lucky enough to get a very nice doctor working at a university hospital, and I wasn't charged too much. However, I have read many horror stories about people asking if it's normal that their civil surgeon is charging them around a thousand dollars.

Well, if I would have not been so lazy and would have gotten my medical while I had my job my employer would have covered it.

So that was never an issue, it was more the beeing afraid of a butcher and beeing lazy...
