Okay, so I LOVE movies.

If you've seen "The Social Network" you have to have been moved by the score (done in part by Nine Inch Nail's Trent Reznor). The boat race scene is the best in the movie, and this is the cover of Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King". If you haven't listened, give it a shot. The entire OST is instrumental and amazing.

Here is the full scene:

Also, this track composed for the cult movie "Suspiria". The first 2 minutes or so are out of this world and will make you feel weird as hell:

If you love any particular movie scores or song from an offcial sound track, please share. A good movie is made amazing by the music they choose :)

Most of what I like would come from much older classics, like Lara's Theme in Dr. Zhivago or Also Spracht Zarathustra in 2001-Space Oddysey.

But in a more recent film, I thought that the use of David Bowie's Cat People (Putting out fire) in Incredible Basterds was an inspired choice. It totally transformed that movie for me.

Easy Rider

Shrek

The Good, The Bad,and The Ugly

The Sting

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Quadrophenia

TheBridge on the River Kwai

Saturday Night Fever

The Godfather

Help!

A Hard Day's Night

All very good choices (well excet for maybe SNF ...)

Some more movies with memorable sound tracks:

A Clockwork Orange (lovely lovely Ludwig van with the Stuka dive bombers)

The Blues Brothers (lovin me some John Lee Hooker)

Fast Times at Ridgemont High (the immortal fantasy scene with Phoebe Cates stripping it off to The Cars She Moves in Stereo)

Risky Business (c'mon Tom Cruise drinking Chivas&Coke and dancing in his underwear to Bob Seger.... that is one for the ages)

Back to the Future (Michael J Fox doing Johnny B Goode)

I've never heard of the word "score" used in place of "soundtrack". I didn't understand the thread title when I first read it. headbonk.gif

Score is actually a common musical term.

it's also a common phrase from scandal when he's minding the sheep.

Oh I LOVED that cover of In the Hall of the Mountain King. I never knew what that song was called and I didn't recognize it when I previewed it on iTunes. So good, that rowing scene was amazing.

I'm going to see Tron just because Daft Punk is doing the score. I'm pumped.

I think score is the music made for the movie and soundtrack is the music and other stuff...or something like that

now I need to google cos I think they're different but close...

Broken down simply, a score is music specifically composed to accompany a film, usually classical or electronic in nature, designed to be woven into the atmospheric backdrop of the film or to be utilized thematically, as if to represent certain characters or situations

A soundtrack, by comparison, is a collection of music, usually songs by several artists, that may or may not have been used in the film, but are generally released to support the “spirit” of the movie. It is not uncommon for soundtracks to include previously released music on these compilations. Soundtracks also lean toward a gray area, in that some soundtracks are actually re-recordings of cues from the original score, presented in fuller quality, or with alternate orchestration, which was not present in the film.

The Tron trailer steals a part of my heart every time I watch it. The score is already all over Youtube.

The full OST is leaked. If you'd like to download it:

Daft Punk haven't been relevant for awhile imo (all I listen to is electro, and their name doesn't come up much). But I think with Tron, if they can really show how versatile they are, they'll be back on the map for a bit.

Amby just set us straight on the distinction between score and soundtrack, and now Bishop has to go and muddy it up again with 'scoretrack' :P What's a scoretrack?

I hope so, Daft Punk is some of my favorite music. I don't think they've released a real album since Discovery, right? Oh my mistake, Human After All was released in 2005. I think it's time for something new.
