I was listening to that on POTUS on XM. It was absolutely cringe-inducing. He couldn't just be gracious and say "go ahead" (it's not like another question is going to kill him, right?).

There was another moment earlier, where he asked why people weren't giving him compliments on his strategy, which I think he meant to be a joke, and it fell FLAT. (A reporter from the US asked if he was getting comments or criticism on the Fed's QE2...

Chip Reid: ...And if you're not willing to delve too deeply into that, what was the number-one complaint, concern, or piece of advice that you got from foreign leaders about the U.S. economy and your stewardship of the economy?

THE PRESIDENT: What about compliments? You didn't put that in the list. There was only complaints, concerns, or -- (laughter.)

Definitely didn't hear any laughter on the audio feed POTUS had, but I think it was another example of how this guy just things he can try to get by on charisma and charm, rather than allowing himself to hear the real concerns of the people around him.

But, I thought this part was more interesting:

"But I think that if I’m consistent with my actions and I’m consistent with my goals, then over time hopefully people look at my overall trajectory and they can draw accurate conclusions about what we’re trying to do."

Um, yeah. I think that's happening, and I think that had a lot to do with the elections this year. I think people *are* getting a good sense of where he's going, and they don't like it...

He was a man out of his comfort zone. You could see the fear in his eyes. No american reporters to throw a soft question at him. The South Koreans that were planted out of asian respect for the office held back just a little too long. Just a lone Chinese reporter wondering why all the hostility towards his banker nation.

He offered ONE question to the Korean Press and in good faith called on the reporter who raised his hand, assuming the guy would only be raising his hand if he were part of the Korean Press. Now imagine every other asian reporter raised his/her hand when Obama said he'd take one question from the Korean Press - how the hell is the President suppose to know which ones are actually part of the Korean Press? hey, wahtever you do, DO NOT change Obama and Nancy Pelosi. Obama has been a huge sales boost for firearms manufacturers (probably the biggest improvement he made in the economy) and Pelosi is driving the Dem bus off the cliff! Go Nancy!

So, let's see. A man is in a foreign country. He graciously attempts to recognize his hosts in that foreign country. He gets caught in a momentarily tricky situation in which he wants to both be polite to his hosts and also to someone else who is not his host, and balances both of those instincts to be courteous. He does a less-than-perfect job of it, but by no means is rude or insulting to anyone involved. And yet his critics will - predictably - find fault with him regardless of what he does. The man could cure world hunger, bring world peace, bring prosperity and good health to every single human on the planet, and still be dismissed by his critics as a failure. One really has to wonder who the 'failures' in this little parable are?

It shouldn't be a big deal. He should have answered the Chinese reporters question and also let the Korean press ask one. It became awkward because he dwelled on it too long trying to clarify that the Koreans had the only crack at a question. He just needed to ad lib a bit and let the guy ask his question. IMHO.
