Hello Everyone ! I will be visiting my Fiance for the first time on October 25 in Iloilo City , Philippines . She has never been married and does not have any children . I am wanting to get a little ahead of this long journry and take the proper Forms with me for her to complete and also , I would like to ask what we can do while we are together to speed up this process ? I do know we need the proof for the I 29F . Was just wondering what Documents we should get while I am there concerning her . She has never been out of the Philippines . Thanks Everyone ! Good Luck To Us All !!!

Hello!

I am from that area too! Just follow the K1 visa journey guidance and you'll be on the right track. http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide#proof Prepare all the documents needed like printing all the the forms. Read the instructions together for I-129F and fill out the form with signature and date. Make sure you prepare a letter of intent and fillout the G-325A together with signature and date and don't forget a passport photo for both of you with signature and date behind. That was my mistake before and it will save a lot of time and money. In proof of meeting, you can take a photo of both of you reading the newspaper that shows the date. Or if you have time to go to BOracay you can take photos at the sandcastle that has a date. Try also to take photos that shows the address for example a shopping centers in Iloilo City. When you change a dollar to peso or when you go shopping try to keep all the receipts. And when you check in a hotel, request to put both of your names in the receipt. I think that's all for now. Double check everything before you leave Philippines to make sure that your fiancée signed and dated all the documents needed from her. It will help you a lot. Goodluck and Godbless in your journey. :star:

I took all forms that had to be sent to USCIS on the first visit. She signed and dated them on the day I left. I filed my I-129F petition 2 days after I returned. Why would you not want to bring the forms and have them taken care of on the first visit? No way I was going to come back and then send them to her and wait until she sent them back to me and file a month + later. The time to get the ball rolling is now.

just my 2¢

Maybe not in the Philippines, but in some countries filing the petition immediately after only one visit will almost guarantee a denial at the interview.

Since this is the general K1 forum, other members reading this should make sure that the advice is applicable to the country where your fiancee lives. If your fiancee is from Southeast Asia, for example, you would be wise not to have her sign the forms or provide any documents on your first visit. Wait until you have two or three visits before you consider filing the petition.

Yes, I made my comments knowing that the OP is visiting the Philippines.

I do however find it odd that US Embassy's in some regions are requiring petitioners to make multiple trips to the beneficiaries home country and also, as I have heard, require lavish engagement ceremonies to prove that a relationship is genuine. I don't know. Maybe this is normal, but US Citizens expect consistency in their government and it does not seem like there is consistency between Embassy's for the same task being performed. I would think that there would be a class action lawsuit filed for this inconsistency (if that is at all possible).

Again, just my 2¢ worth,

John

I am nearly on the same ship as you. I am going to meet Eve in March and I was planning on taking all my forms when I go. I am planning on taking everything she will need for her interview, my tax returns, my copies of birth certificate and passport pictures. We were planning on taking a day or so getting all that she would need together while I am there. I have a couple of questions also, #1 when making copies of tax returns can I black out ss# and #2 is how do they get email or text # for updates, I don't see place on 129f to put this info or am I just overlooking this space. Thanks and good luck to both of you.

well it is a rather cultural thing, where an engagement party means something it will be requested.

the whole not on the first trip thing is just damage control in my opinion,to have more evidence and what not under your belt if anything is requested by USCIS or the embassy from the foreigner beneficiary .of course in some cases the more evidence of a bona fide relationship there is ,the less the petitioner has to worry about

Ok, I will give you my 1 and 1/2 cents worth. I am not a CO, so I have no idea how they think. But, if you have been talking with your SO for some time, you love each other and both agree that you are going to give this thing a whirl... Then of course you are going to be wanting to take care of some of the paperwork on your first visit. I mean really .... isnt that a sign that you plan on truly being commited to each other ?? If you had only been talking for a very short time together, then I would say it would be a good idea to wait untill your next visit. There could be many different ways to look at this situation. Let's say for example that you waited untill your third visit to start your papers. Would the CO ask him/her self " I wonder why they decided to wait soo long to start their paperwork.. was their relationship a little sketchy at first... was the USC soo gunshy of the benn. that he wanted to wait untill later to seal the deal. There are a bunch of ways you can look at this. In my situation, I did not know if I was going to be able to make three trips to Vietnam to see my SO. So, we waited till the last day of my first trip, wich was also 6 days after our engagement/Din Hon party to sign any papers.. (at least to show that we spent some time together before we started signing legal documents). Many people have told me that I put 2 strikes against us with doing these things on the first trip ( Din Hon and paperwork ). But, I wanted both the woman that I love and her parents to know that I was serious about getting the ball rolling. I think that these actions were the closest thing I could do (besides having a full blown Vietnamese wedding) prove to her and her parents that I was truly thinking long term. Now remember... these are only my thoughts and opinions.

Interesting speculation; however, in every instance, the more history a couple has, the better it will look in the eyes of a CO. "Evidence of bona fide relationship" is the key element -- the more, the better.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Good luck

I would say you need three things form her to start.

1. Passport style pictures of her, oh maybe around 3 copies (make sure they are 2 inch X 2 inch)

2. Take with you a copy of form G-325A or use the internet cafe to log into the USCIS web page and fill out the form and print it out. Make sure she signes it.

3. Copy of her biographical page of her passport. If she don't have one then you should work on that now.

If you have these things then it should make things easier.

Good luck.

as far as personal peace of mind goes, yes, youre right,it is more convenient to take the paperwork on the first visit.however, whoever said you can fully know someone by just talking to them was a fool, there is a lot more to a relationship, specially in situations like k-1 petitioners ( the explanation for k-3 and cr-1 is that they are married, they have gotten to the point of knowing each other well enough to get married ).

i suggest you read the effects of major life changes board on this website to see how many things can go wrong, how people can change so quickly after getting what they want.

thats as far as psychological and damage control aspect of it goes.

as far as paperworks, interview and CO goes, they are not going to care why you applied late,or why you have met your fiance one " too many times " ( there is no such thing as seeing your loved one too many times ).because regardless of how many times you meet, you have to prove that your relationship is bona fide.if anything it provides more proof that you have given it more thought and taken your time and are applying based on logic, not emotion.

two PS's

PS1: i am not suggesting that the beneficiary for op or you or anyone else is a scammer,im saying the petitioners have to take their time if possible, there is no shame in that

PS2: i forgot it,ill add it later
