Just include a cover letter as if it's from your USC fiance and leave it without a signature. This isn't a big deal, just send the package out.

Well, it's just my opinion, but I think if it's sent from Australia, they're going to look at it as being filed by you. That's just my opinion and maybe I'm more paranoid than necessary. I just wouldn't want something as simple as sending it from Australia rather than the US, or having my signature instead of my fiances, be the reason I either get denied or have a bigger hassle getting accepted.

Don't listen to the poster above, the file can be sent from anywhere in the world. USCIS doesn't care, as long as everything inside the package is there.

Yes it is your opinion but it doesn't correlate with the facts. In all likelihood, the envelope your petition arrived in is immediately thrown out. It wouldn't make sense for USCIS to care or observe where the file was sent from, considering lots of Americans do travel and probably do the forms with their fiance in the fiance's country. Or even if they're on a working holiday or something.

If you've ever heard of someone being hassled about what country was on the envelope, maybe I will change my mind. But I've been on this site for awhile now and have never heard of that. The process doesn't need to be made more complicated by paranoia.

Ok, I will give my 2 cents worth.... I think if it were "ME" I would send the petition back to my SO in the US, have him put his John Hancock on it and then have him send it off. I am another one of those lucky guys that has to win the battle at the Ho Chi Minh City Consulate. So..... I would not take a single thing to chance. I had my papers prepared by a gentleman that is very experienced with this process. He prepared a very detailed 3 page cover letter that explained my intentions and was also much like a "table of contents" to everything that was enclosed. The petition was very meticulously sectioned and labled according to the cover letter and yes........ My cover letter had my name typewritten and signed at the very end.

why don't you just write a cover letter with no signatures, just a list of the enclosed documents? I mean, a cover letter is not even required: just write a sort of index for the convenience of the person who will open your package.

back then we didn't even include any cover letter, because we found out about this site only after sending the petition, and the official instructions don't mention any cover letter requirements. approved without RFEs or problems whatsoever.

this process is a pain, but it's not worth making it more painful (and expensive) than it already is.

what USCIS wants is a bunch of documents signed by the petitioner + a few documents signed by the beneficiary + supporting evidence. that's it. no special post stamps from the continental US, no cover letters signed by the petitioner, nothing. simple as it may sound. the instructions don't say anywhere that there is a specific location from which you have to send your envelope, or the brand of the pen you need to use to fill in the forms, or the size of the paper. we used a size of paper, A4, that is very common in Italy but is not used here in the US. USCIS did not infer anything from that. approved with no RFEs whatsoever.

just make sure you have everything that is listed in the instructions, EVERYTHING, and you will be fine.

Everything else is signed, does it actually make a difference where the package is sent from?

Sorry for all the questions, I just don't want to waste any more time if it isn't necessary.

I guess it does not matter where it is sent from, but it DOES matter who sends it. The petition makes it clear that the US citizen is the petitioner -the one to send the packet on behalf of the foreign fiance(e)(beneficiary). The cover letter does not need to be signed, but it is just easier for the adjudicator to see a list of included documents.

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.

Calm down everyone. The cover letter for all intends and purposes doesn't matter. It is just a table of contents really. Have your dog paw print it for all USCIS cares. As long as you have the forms which are required signed by the appropriate person then it will be fine.

Our petition was sent from Scarborough, UK (we went to the post office together when I was visiting) and we had no problems, it doesn't matter where the petition is mailed from.

The cover letter is optional but all the other forms needs to be signed by the both the petitioner and beneficiary like the biographical information and the letter of intent to marry. Please don't do shortcut if you want to get it right.

At my N400 interview, they had all the envelopes we ever sent petitions in (I-751, I-90 x2, N400)... don't know why they keep them, but they're in your file.
