I received an RFE dated Jan 6. They want to see a joint lease signed by conditional resident, US citizen spouse and the owner of the property. When we rented it was just a verbal agreement on month to month terms. I'm thinking that maybe an affidavit attesting to that from the owner would be enough?

Joint financial information was also requested. Unfortunately, after adding my wife to the bank account the statements kept coming in my name only. I was thinking about asking the bank for a letter stating the date she was added to the account except I don't know how helpful the bank will be with a request like that.

They also want to see joint utilies, but only one service allowed me add her name. All the others said they only allow one person and they were all in my name. I did send a copy of the one joint utility but maybe I should several spanning the last two years? Maybe also include explanation about the other not allowing me add her name to existing account?

Anybody else run into or heard of similar situations?

I would suggest:

- An Affidavit attesting your verbal rental agreement from the owner should be enough for the first request. You may also look into them writing another letter if they know you and your spouse well enough.

- Get a letter from the Bank Manager stating that your spouse is a joint account holder and from when this change occurred.

- Add the letter explaining the lack of joint utility bills and do include several bills for the one you have in both names spanning the last two years.

- Send some more pics, greeting/Thank You cards received in the mail from family, friends or anything that you can think of as proof of marriage life.

- Did you send in copies jointly filed tax returns?

- Any vehicle/assets/purchases showing both owners?

- Insurance cards showing both of your names?

- State ID/ Drivers license copies

- Credit cards with same number held by both of you.

- If you have direct deposits of paychecks into your joint account point that out.

- When you respond to the RFE, bulletize what you are sending so that the IO can clearly see what you have sent.

On January 11, 2011, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this CRI89 PETITION TO REMOVE CONDITIONS OF PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS RECEIVED. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.
