Surely there are topics in VJ, even in OT, where it's possible to have some discussion without exhibiting 'that behavior', yes? I never said to ' unequivocally leave VJ' but yer deciding to pick a fight. Right? Over What?

Darnell, stop deflecting, and answer my question. As AJ has pointed out, your master list there is already forbidden by the TOS and enforced by moderators, rendering much of your argument moot.

Were you or were you not telling a vague "krewe" as you refer to them to leave VJ and find another forum? Seems quite clear to me. If that is not what you meant, you really should clean up your language and be clearer so the rest of this forum won't misinterpret your insinuations.

Many of these 'old timers' that hang around in OT, like to 'stir the pot'.

It's one or more of

--flame-baiting

--name calling

--racist speech

--references to racist speech

--carry overs of prior 'thread-wars' with new attempt to 'win'

--personal attacks

--defamation of character

--sexual innuendos

VJ, even in OT forum, is NOT the place for this. It 'grew' into this, but come on - it's NOT the place for this. This is a 'Family Immigration Web Portal' and this type of behavior needs to stop.

If these 'old timers' decided, en masse, to stop making posts that covered things from this list, then this discussion would be moot.

If you really have a grudge, if you really want to pick on someone here because of prior altercations - hey ! Give it a rest !

But listen - this is all down to choice, ya? You've made a choice to hang out here, you've made a choice to throw-down in OT. Conscious or unconscious, drunk or sober, you made a choice.

The thing is, as AJ pointed out - those things you listed are already against the TOS and are the basis of the site moderation (in theory at least).

Simply sitting there and saying people need to leave isn't going to result in anything, it's just hot air.

If you have a radical idea of how to improve things you should suggest it to the mods. Coming up with some arbitrary list of posters whose behaviour you disapprove of and who should be summarily excluded as a result just isn't going to happen.

I've noticed that this is one of the big problems on VJ today.

Many would like to not be moderated themselves but then when someone else does something they don't approve of, they're the first one to report it (or more than likely discuss it on an open forum).

Another issue I would like to throw out there is that no two people have the same exact point of view on a topic. Sometimes you have to agree to disagree. Especially when it comes to disputes regarding a moderator's decision in threads, we have a wonderful Site Admin named Ewok who is more than willing to hear both (or however many) sides of the story there are.

For instance, I may interpret a post as being racist while someone else may read it and not feel that way. Someone else may read a post I've written and feel it has a sarcastic undertone, when I may not have written it that way. Everything is subjective.

I think what I'm trying to say is, we shouldn't always be on the defensive and we should keep our minds open to other possibilities. No one is perfect

AJ you know me, I'm quick to call racism out. I'm a little more culturally sensitive than some. I don't moderate OT (thank goodness), but if you feel that it wasn't addressed I would definitely contact Site Admin via the contact form. I don't know if you did that already.

Let's not forget the "dumpster sluts" thread was up for hours, even after being reported, and even after three(!!!!) moderators read and participated in these threads where it was brought up over and over and over. How does that happen?

I can't speak for other mods, but I never saw any thread called "the Dumpster Sluts thread." Did you report it? I can only can moderate regionals and view regional reports.

I am amused at the idea that VJ did have baiting and bad language in 2008. If my memory serves, "VJ Troll" was at the height of his powers, Amby was regularly posting threads about sex and Platy was still an active member

People think VJ is "worse than it used to be" it's because they mostly used the Upper Forums in their early days and then file for AOS, get bored and start mostly using OT.

I am of the belief that the drama on VJ used to of a higher quality than it is now.

Hey! Gov't bureaucracy, that's right up my alley AJ!

Seriously though, I know he normally reads the posts from his blackberry. As someone who does that too, I'll tell you it takes like 4X as long to read posts and to post back. I still haven't figured out how to search the forums on the mobile version of the site, or PM a member from the blackberry either.

He even tells us in the moderator forum that it's the best way to contact him because it is an e-mail direct to his blackberry and he can respond to you more efficiently. When I get an e-mail about a PM it comes with a link that takes like 5 min. to load on the blackberry.

I'm just sayin' it's worth a shot my friend.
