On a K-1 visa, my Thai wife came to the US in April '10 with her 19 year old son with K-2 visa. They submitted the Adjustment of Status etc forms. She got her PA photo id card and her SSNumber now. Later they received notice for their biometrics. They had those done - 5 minute affair. Longer to drive to the center. Recently, they received a notice to report for an interview in mid-Aug. I was surprised. What kind of questions do they asked? They had an interview at the US embassy in BKK. I worked in BKK for 4 years before we came to US. Also, I brought her to US 2 years ago to be sure she liked this country. I'm 66 & she's in her 40's. Can anyone give me an idea of the types of question USCIS might ask? Thanks.

post moved from the US Citizenship forum as this relates to the AOS and not citizenship interview

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Interviews are common for K1 applicants adjusting status. They will want proof of your marriage and of joint accounts, etc. showing you have a life together. Follow the instructions on the interview letter which lists all of the necessary documents. We brought photo albums and bank statements as well as letters and cards addressed to both of us. Good luck with your interview!

Please fix your profile. It says you applied for a K3 visa, and that your local USCIS office is Bangkok, Thailand.

The questions may be simple and superficial, or they may try to dig pretty deep into your relationship. It depends on how little or much suspicion they have about the relationship. One thing is certain - you will find out personally what the questions are because you must attend the interview with your wife. Read the appointment letter carefully, and bring whatever evidence is requested.

To those who replied to my queston, thank you. If anybody has more information, please let me know. We have photos, joint bank acct, joint lease & a few more. She's only been here 2 and half months, waiting for the green card. Thus she can't work to build up credit history and other things. Look forward to more replies.

They won´t expect you to have tons of evidence given that she just arrived 2 months ago. The things you listed are good. Do you by chance have joint health insurance? That would be another good piece of evidence. I also took my husband to the DMV to get an ID card which showed our address and took letters and cards addressed to us at that same address. Don´t forget your marriage certificate as well. Good luck on the interview!

Better take a look at that state issued ID card. If the I-94 was the proof of legal presence you used, then the ID card should expire on the date the I-94 expires. In California, a state issued ID card can be used as proof of lawful presence. For most people, it would be kind of pointless to get an ID card that's valid for less than 90 days. I suppose it might be useful to show a common address, but the DMV doesn't require proof that you actually live at the address you give them. You could write any address you like on a DL44. As strange as it sounds, the envelope you received the ID card in would probably be better proof, since it proves your husband actually receives mail delivered to that address.

Actually, we live in CA and were able to get the ID card using the EAD. The I-94 had already expired. We showed the ID card at the interview as proof. I believe we had to show some form of proof of address when we applied for the ID card, but I don´t remeber for sure as we have been back a few times now to take care of the necessary steps for obtaining the driver license (once we received the green card).

Cool. Yeah, I figured you lived in the South Bay, since you listed "San Jose" as your local USCIS office.

I went with my daughter to get both a Cal ID and later a driver license at an East Bay DMV. She only needed her birth certificate, and also the driver training certificate for the license (she was 17 at the time). They didn't ask for any proof of address. I've also never needed it to renew my license. It might be different in the South Bay, but it's not a listed requirement on the state DMV website.

Does the ID have the same expiration date as the EAD?

Thanks. working on insurance, but the companies I spoke to want green card or long term residence card. I'm on Medicare, since I'm over 65. My wife is in her late 40's. My wife has a PA id card with address. We have evidence we've known each other for more than 10 years. She has SSA card too. All show our address.

All other comments are welcome.
